Roughly 3 weeks after I bought the set, which just happens to be a week after the 14-day return policy of Best Buy, the left speaker started to sound...."scratchy?" I'm not sure I'm using the right term. I'm no audio expert by any means. I am, however, an IT guy with nearly 20 years of experience. Although, as a technician/admin in an SMB or a fortune 500 company, the typical response to quirky speakers is to replace them. Since this is my own dime now, I'm hoping there's a better solution.

I bought a Monsoon system back in the late 90's when I worked for CompUSA(got it at cost). It was a nice system that has served me well, but a cord that I doubt I could even find a replacement for lost a fight to one of the cats. While my hearing isn't the best, I noticed a huge difference in quality when I was listening to the sub-$100 systems at Best Buy and the Klipsch set. I didn't really want to spend that much, but figured I'd spoil myself a little bit.

Has anyone had this problem with their Klipsch speaker? It's driving me nuts.

You can clean the volume pots, replace the speaker wire or have the unit replaced by Klipsch if that doesn't work.

Thank you for the response.

I've done a little bit of research on the volume pot thing. Most people that recommend cleaning the volume pots do so when it crackles when you adjust the volume. I've heard this phenomenon before on other speakers, but seems to sound much different than what I'm experiencing. It's more scratchy than crackly, and happens all the time, not when I'm adjusting the volume. Would you still recommend it for my situation?

As for speaker wires, I'm looking on Klipsch.com and I don't see any speaker wires as "parts" to order. Is there somewhere else I can get these? Perhaps higher quality wires as well?

You should be able to return it if it's defective especially 3 weeks after you bought it, who knows what else might go wrong. Get a different set.

Yeh I'd call BB. I think that 14 days is for returns only but exchanges are 30. Not 100% on that but worth a shot.

Policy is 15 for returns and exchanges. So, I think I'll try the wire first. Maybe a better gauge than what comes with them. Should just need a 3.5mm end and separate the wires on the other end, right?

If that doesn't work, I guess I'll see what Klipsch can do for me.

ehh...did you check your soundcard. My creative x-fi was dying when it was getting a scratchig sound. I hooked up to onboard it sounded perfectly fine.

Agree. Check the wire & the inlet. Sound card too. Hopefully Klipsch will make good on a return if needed.

Bought my Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 set about 5-6 years back. Great sound and works flawlessly, except an occasional cut out when adjusting the volume pot, which is not unusual for these. Not a real biggie for me though.

If it's not working 3 weeks after you bought it, take it back if they resist complain loud enough so people hear, I don't care what their policy is, they sold you defective merchandise. If that doesn't work go on ripoff report and complain. Trust me, these guys don't want the negative publicity. They should have sold you something that worked. If you were six months in and it developed a fault, fair enough, a different strategy would be in order. These guys sold you something that was shit and didn't work right. Take it back, don't piss about, whatever you do, you have defective merchandise, you can't fix it and it isn't something you should be wasting your time trying to do.
