I bought these speakers about 5 years ago and it looks like I've finally joined the issues club. :p

My speakers started having a problem where the sound was low and garbled and turning up the volume did not increase the sound. It was intermittent. Turning the system on and off a couple times or unplugging and re-seating the DIN plug from the control pod would fix it for a day or two.

I searched around and discovered that replacing the control pod could solve this issue (though my control pod already had the newer styled right angle DIN plug). I went ahead and spent the $25 or whatever it was to get a new one and the issue seemed to go away for a few days, but now it's back, however it's not happening as frequently as before.

Additionally, about a year ago the sub would stop working at times, but that problem has gone away mysteriously. Not sure if related.

What else do I need to replace? I'm a generally technical guy, but I've never replaced resistors and small components like that. Time for new speakers?

If you are in the NoVA area by chance I have a fully working set I'll let you have for a good price.

I don't really get into shipping. Too big and heavy. Not worth it.

Try searching the klipsch forums, last time I was there they had quite a few threads that gave some really good technical info for repairs. Not sure if he's still on Ebay, but if you search klipsch repair, there was a guy that had parts packages and instructions for all sorts of common issues with the klipsch computer speakers.

or, if you don't mind spending some cash.

you could make a nice 2.1 system with these. One of the few studio style speakers that actually has an LFE output so you can add any powered sub to beef it up. I just ordered a set myself. Since my previously repaired Klipsch 5.1 ultras are starting to produce buzzing again.

Guys that know how to fix the old Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 systems can make good money. People don't want to give them up because there's never been anything like them in a computer speaker since. The ProMedia 5.1 Ultra's and the old Monsoon MM700 planar's are the best PC speakers ever made, then and since.

The Logitech Z5500's weren't even close (I have a set sitting on the shelf. I can't stand them).
