i currently have Klipsch ProMedia 2.1s and i love them but the speaker cables keep coming detached from them - theya re lose or something. anyway i shall be returning them to Best Buy and i can select a new pair of speakers for under 200 dollars. so obviously, my choices are to get another pair of Klipsch ProMedia 2.1s or a pair of Logictech Z-5300 5.1s. Obviously the Logitech is awesome cuz it has more speakers, but i won't be able to use mroe than 2 until i go to college (my bro has a 4.1 system and mom is always rolling her chair over the back speakers). really, i'm just trying to get your opinion on who the better manufacturer is.

thanks for your opinions guys :)

well i used to have logitech z-560's, and now i own klipsch 5.1 ultras. and i can say the klipsch sound quality is much better.

i love my logitechs (before the sub blew) but the klipsch is just better

First, those speakers are in different categories. The Logitech set is their budget surround sound system (as opposed to their high-end 5.1, the 680). The Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 is their quality 2.1 speakers vs. their budget GMX2.1 system.

So obviously, going Logitech, you'd get far less sound quality but more speakers.

A more accurate comparison would be something like the age-old z560 vs. Klipsch ProMedia 4.1 (Dome's comparison is also unfair, since it's taking mid-range Logitechs against a high-end Klipsch), but I digress.

I'd suggest the Klipsch, because:

A) If you think you're suddenly going to have tons of space to set up a surround sound system in a dorm, you're dreaming.
B) Even if you could, don't be an asshole to your roommate. In fact, get some headphones too. My foot has gotten its share of excersize by kicking incosiderate roommates' asses.
C) Surround sound is overrated, but sound quality is not.

My roomate has the Klipsch 4.1 PM, I own the 560s.

After swapping them and listening to them I prefer my 560s over the Klipsch. The Klipsch highes and mids are much better overall, but im a bass monster. I like to feel the gun shots in games.

They really not that much difference between the 2, the logitechs have much more boomy bass compared to the Klipsch. It all depends on what you mainly doing with them.

For music I would choose the Klipsch, but for mostly gaming and Drum/Bass type music I would be happy with the logitechs.

Another thing is price. I got my 560s for 100$ used from the forums. Cheapest Ive seen the Klipsch is about 150-200$. Depending on what model you buy. Myself, i dont belive the extra 50-100$ is worth the difference between the 2. This is just my opinion, you will find alot of Klipsch freaks here, they think Klipsch is just the best thing in the world compared to anything. I let me ears tell me which is best, not the name.

As do mine. It isn't that Klipsch is better than everything, just the logitech sets that I have heard (which matters here).

Personally, I got my 4.1's for $120, which, unless is got your logitechs for $20, is a far cry from a $100 premium. But that is a different story ;)

I am myself a fan of bass; just not overly boomy. More of a sq than spl man myself.

[/end logitech vs klipsch for the 1000th time]

I own the logitech z560s and think they are great speakers. I had a friend though who was in your situation and I reqemended the Klipsch because I think they are super quality 2.1s. But as everyone has said its up to you. I'm about to upgrade to the Klipsch 5.1s to see what the fuss is about, but its what you hear that counts.

I've lived in the dorms for 2 years and I have a 4.1 system. I have never had any trouble with room mates or neighbors because of the sound. Infact, my 5.1 set up will be going in here too. Dorms are loud so don't let that stop you from getting quality speakers.

I have both the Klipsch and the Logitech 560, and I think my Klipsch sounds better.
