Klipsch 2.1's BUGGING OUT!!!

OK, i've had this pair of speakers for about 1.5 years and they have served me well. In the past 6 months they have started to act up. At times only 1 speaker would work, only the sub would work... lalala.... Well, turning them off and on would usually solve that problem, but now i have to use half a roll of scotch tape to hold the plug in the back in the right position....

What I am asking is that well, I know i am not at fault here, so is there a replacement thing or something i can do to get these repaired/replaced? Or is my only option new speakers?

My guess is the wires in the plug are broken, or the socket has gone bad. I'd bet on the wires though, you can get replacments from Klipsch.

is it me or the build quality of the Klipsch isn't on par with creative labs?
i keep hearing people having problems with their Klipsch on various forums

Paul Klipsch died two years ago and the son took over. Right after that they all but stopped being a “specialty” company and went more broad market. So broad in fact Best Buy is probably their biggest dealer at this point.

So they just aren’t what they used to be

Ok... This has just gone too far. Every day now i am forced to re-scotch tape this SHIT!!!

I sent an e-mail to the klipsch tech support... see what that yeilds.

Just to be ready if i can't get anything from them. What speakers, 2.1 of course, have atleast the same power as these? They must have atleast the same amout of bass power, and better satilite quality if possible. ~150 +/- 20 bucks plz

Just an update:

I received an email back from the tech support, which said:

Thank you for your email. It sounds like you will
need a new preamp, which will contain the preamp
input plug. If you are under the one year
warranty. Please fax the proof of purchase to
888-606-5776 and provide your name, address,
daytime phone number, and the part requested. We
are currently out of stock on the item, but when
we receive it, we will ship it out at no charge,
once we receive the fax. If you are outside of
the warranty or do not have the proof of purchase,
it is $21.00 + shipping.

I responded:

Before I go foward and check to see if I am under warrenty or need to
pay the $21.00, is there somewhere you could point me which would give
directions on how to install this hardware? I assume it requres
removing the rear metal pannel from the Subwoofer and doing something
with the audio controls on the satallite speaker?

Any thoughts?

Most companies would blame you for handleing the plug roughly and wouldn't likely have replacement parts if out of warranty...

I would fix them though as I have a set of 2.1s that are about 4yrs old, no problems and they still sound great. Also noteworthy my just short of two year old 5.1s died last week but Klipsch extended the 1yr warranty to 2yrs (known problem with 5.1s) so It cost me mail and now a wait ...

If you have basic tech skills as in you can solder etc you can replace that plug/socket with a good one. You would not be the first, nor the last with this problem

Yea I really have to wonder how Klipsch can make such great sounding products that fail so often...although to be fair, they are popular and a lot of people have them and push them farther than most speakers.

But I have also never heard of their high end products, like the reference series, failing like their mulimedia speakers do.

But thank god for my 4 year service plan from Best Buy...so far I've exchanged 3 sets of speakers (although the upgrade to the Ultras was a nice bonus )

Hmmm weird... i just got this response:

The preamp is the volume control pod under neath
the bottom of the speaker, it slides off.

With the speaker facing you, push the pod towards
the rear of the speaker.

To which i responded:

Ok, but I am not sure if that is the problem. I think the problem is
with the preamp plug in the back of the subwoofer, that is where I
have to hold the plug in as hard as possible?

I mean, was i not clear in the first message? Doesn't the peice in the subwoffer need to be replaced aswell?
