Which is better:

MSI HAWK Talon Attack

or

Gigabyte SOC

They both have similar clocks, similar warranty periods, and of course non-ref coolers.

Which one is more quite and produces less heat? Or which one is a better company?
 
From the reviews I have seen the Gigabyte one seems to be the quietest and coolest card of any GTX 460. They both produce the same heat, just one gets rid of it better than the other. The only complaint I have heard about the Gigabtye one is they say the fans feel very flimsy. This shouldn't be an issue though since it will be protected inside your case anyway though.

Instead of answering me, buy that one....actually the Gigabyte is the cheapest 460 around so double buy that
 
I have the gigabyte OC, and it's fantastic. virtually no noise on gaming. and i'm picky on noise.

no advice on the talon attack.
 
I have the Talon Attack and love it.
I don't hear it running to be honest. Fan at 40%/auto
Idles @22 compared to my GTX260@37. Just started playing the free Hawx-2 that came with it. Blazing Angels2 was included free also.
I almost got the Gig card but opted for the MSI and it's fine.
You will enjoy either one I'm sure.
 
I liked my Hawk (not talon version) so much I bought a second one. :)
 
Hmmm two throurough reviews but I don't see anything that would push me towards one or the other...

People have been saying that the Gigabyte would OC better but the review shows MSI Talon hitting 1Ghz

I don't know lol!
 
the msi cooler rules, but you better be getting a good price on your 460 to be worth it. prices on other cards are coming down a lot, and no matter how fast your 460 overclocks, it isnt worth what msi used to charge for it

It's tough to compare, because these 3 sites all use different test specs, and none of them test both cards...

According to these reviews (in the apples-to-oranges sense), the MSI card is anywhere between 5-10 degrees cooler but 2-5 decibels louder. I don't even think I should bother trying to compare performance...

I'm getting a large case with lots of air flow, but also lots of fans... so temp isn't a problem for me and I will already have lots of noise from fans.

I'm just ever so slightly leaning towards MSI atm for some reason... I think.

Either way Jagx, or any way :D, I would wait just a bit longer as price wars should only getting started. 69xx are coming out shortly and should prices down even further.

69xx series aren't even the same market segment as the GTX 460, and the 68xx already came out which are closer to gtx 460 performance. Any price drops that were going to happen on the GTX 460 happened already with the launch of 68xx. I wouldn't expect Nvidia to drop the price further until they release a 560 or some equivalent.
 
The 6950 and 570 are probably going to interest a lot of people.

There are some darn good GTX 460s out there for the asking price. You can get the MSI Cyclone for 200usd or 175usd if you bother with the rebate. TPU got one of those to do 850 on the core with stock voltage. Load was 61C. Afterburner might push it higher.

I just bought an EVGA 1GB GTX 460 for $200.00 CAD from ++++.com. That is after a $10.00 mail in rebate though. The specs when buying said it was a standard GPU clock of 675mhz but the one I received is clocked at 720mhz so must be this one which has a $20.00 mail in rebate right now which means if I use that rebate instead of the $10.00 one it will cost me $190.00 after rebate.

I'd go for the Gigabyte one, there are/will be good deal one those. Alsom the cooler is the quietest, always a plus !
