It's available for pre-order I don't know where from a good source: Clubic.
I heard a rumor that it cost 200 euro.

The thing that interest the most about it is the leaning function for bf4. This is real good. I was searching for a way to lean outside the keyboard and tough about pedals but kinect is even better I think if it work well because I never tried.

The next thing is the voice command of bf4. But I don't understand why it need kinect to does this.

And finally maybe some cool games and stuff to do with this thing. But I'm afraid it is more good for a tv than a computer screen. Maybe I could connect it on my laptop with the new steam stream feature and play on my large tv.

Think of all the great games Kinect games you can play like... em... well there's... hmm...

I can't figure out what the advantages of it would be, for me personally anyway.

I was tired of talking to my computer and issuing commands to it 15+ years ago (when using the OS X Developer's Pre-Releases).

Because now that the console market has rejected Kinect and Microsoft has abandoned it on Xbox and theyre piling up in the warehouse, they're trying to come crawling back to PC.

Sorry Microsoft, the time to show PC gaming you cared was 7 months ago, not now that you've killed the device and ensured no developer wants any part of it.

TrackIR

Any microphone?

....And not a single fuck was given that day.

Pretty much.

Kinect already is on PC, I think you mean Kinect 2. ;)

Great news, except I could care less about it in terms of gaming. But when it comes to originally unintended uses such as the advances in healthcare, I think this is awesome.

For gaming kinect hasn't really taken off like microsoft would like. But in other areas kinect as been great like medical and research. For me the kinect got used quite a bit by my kids. I think if microsoft had backwards compatibility atleast the original kinect games could've been used, then there would've been a chance the kinect would've been used on my xbox one beyond signing into xbox live.

But when kinect works it, works its great. I think games like just dance and nba baller beats are great examples of showcasing what kinect can do.

I don't see a single thing this would be useful for on PC. People have enough of a problem caring about it on consoles.. Porn industry maybe..

good for cheap mocap, and maybe eventually in combination with vr. I can't say I would buy one right now.

didn't the original Kinect get put in a few operating rooms because the surgeons could use gestures to change x-rays, mri scans, etc on a monitor vs each one needing to be sterilized prior to being brought in and placed on a light board?

Kinect has been used a lot in various industries. A friend of mine that works in one of the LA art schools uses kinect quite frequently, he seems to love it. It is also being used for autonomous machines to detect objects for avoidance. There are a ton of applications for it, far more in the PC realm than on the Xbox. If anything MS should have released it first for PC and then as an optional accessory for Xbox. I happen to like my Kinect2 on the XB1, but its hardly a necessary tool for it.

As an aside here, as far as the percentage of power being taken away from your systems, that happens with just about any accessory. I am honestly not sure why people are so surprised by that.

TrackIR is fine for sitting direclty in front of the monitor, but it is inferior to kinect, especially if you want to build a cockpit for racing or flying where you use a large screen to immerse yourself in the simulation. Track IR requires you to be sitting directly in front of it, no more than a few feet away and even then can be finicky with alignment of the track clip pro.

A kinect that can be placed far away, and capture your head movements without you wearing anything on your head to reflect back at it, and have higher precision is way more interesting to me IMO.

I was developing an application using the kinect SDK to get it working in DCS A10 when the news about the Oculus came out.

Once Oculus becomes more accessible I don't see the need for large screens, track IR or kinect anymore as it will simply be superior in every way. From what I read on the DCS forums they started working with Oculus quite some time ago to get it working in their simulations, so I have a DK2 on order and cant wait.

Once devices like Oculus have lightboost / g-sync, 1440p+, OLED, etc what could possibly be better? My guess is nothing until we can sit inside a room that *is* a high resolution hologram / projection or something similar; something that you don't have to wear on your head or have something so close to your eyes which I guess the long term medical effects are still unknown.
