Keyboard problem - port conflicts

hi. i recently purchased a microsoft wireless optical desktop elite package, the one that includes the black keyboard and mouse. i found out that my computer's ps/2 has a problem, so i bought a ps/2 to usb converter (Belkin brand), this way i can use the keyboard through a usb port.

the conflict is...the keyboard functions except, the computer doesn't recognize it as a Mirosoft keyboard, instead it is some rundown Belkin driver because of the converter, and now all the shortcut keys on the top of the keyboard, the scroll wheel on the side, and all the "additional" features do not work.

is there anything I can do so that it will recognize it as a Microsoft product so I can utilize the shortcut keys and such?

thanks.
