Hi people.

Since I've installed this new computer, I've had problem with my keyboard. First a little history:
This is a new computer that replaces another one. I kept the keyboard and mouse, but I installed with another keyboard and mouse.

Now what happens is this. Keyboard works fine, untill windows has finished booting (i.e. I can use the keyboard in BIOS, or even safe mode), then it just doesn't respond at all.

What I currently do as a workaround is as soon as I'm logged in (and of course, I can't have a password on my account, or I wouldn't be able to log in) I go in device manager and uninstall/delete the keyboard (which has that interrogation marks next to it) and then scan for new hardware. The keyboard then re-appears without the interrogation mark.

I've tried updating the drivers, but that doesn't fix it. I tried booting into safe mode and deleting the hardware from device manager and reboot...but that doesn't work.

What have I forgot to do?

As always, thanks for answers :D

EDIT: Forgot to mention in case some people might find it important. Keyboard is a Logitech Corded Internet Keyboard. Keyboard that was used to install is a cheapo nameless Windows Standard Keyboard (says model KB-1107, no idea who made it).

Were both keyboards USB? It sounds like a BIOS issue.. try screwing with the classic PS/2 options/USB in there, and make sure that your OS is set to PnP capable (I forget the exact option).

I used to have the same problem, but changing some option in there fixed it. If only I remembered :/

Ah, I knew I forgot to mention something. Keyboard is PS2 and mouse is USB.

I'll go check my BIOS in case that's the problem.

I have had that same problem haunt me. THe solution is simple. You'll need to go into device manager and reinstall the keyboard manually and make sure that you allow windows to disable the other PS/2 port because your keyboard is an "enhanced keyboard". Basically, the 2 concurrent ports will cause the keyboard to not function unless Windows is told to drop the resources for the mouse port--even if you have a USB mouse. Now if you had a PS/2 mouse, you'd have to make sure the keyboard was designated an unenhanced keyboard. You can also find it by going into control panel->other hardwrae->keyboards. On device however, you probably ahve a red-x next to your keyboard. Just make sure you have windows to disable PS/2 port and you'll be working again.

That might work, but I found a solution through somebody who had the same problem.

Actually what I had to do is disable USB mouse support in my bios. Seems it's a problem with newer Gigabytes motherboard.

That option should stay disabled anyway, since I'm not using OS on that computer that doesn't have mouse support.

Tz
