Keyboard and mouse not working

My uncle has just bought a new motherboard and processor, all works fine but he is having problems with his ps2 mouse and usb keyboard.

When you first turn on the pc, the ps2 mouse doesnt work at all, if you go into device manager there is no mouse installed. However when you reboot the pc the mouse works fine.

A similar problem happens with the usb keyboard, it sometimes doesnt work when you load windows but the keyboard communication light is on. When you go to device manager the keyboard isnt listed.

The keyboard was installed using the drivers on the disc, the mouse has no drivers but windows xp enables the mouse to work anyway.

My uncle's motherboard is the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum which is 1 day as well as his brand new ram. hard drive and processor.

He used both his mouse and keyboard with no problems on his old pc but now he is getting problems. What is causing this???

wh00ps... there is something to be said for situational awareness, isn't there...

there's a red flag going off in my head about that board... lemme go look up that thread...

could be a mad motherboard but i doubt it, anything else quickly it could be?

doubtful. this sounds like a case of bad usb ports... if you have a winbond i/o chip, then that might be the prob, if not, it's a bad southbridge. 6 of one, half-dozen of the other... bad mobo either way. i do hate that...
