Anyone know if kepler will be here in time for SB-E, cuz I want to upgrade straight to kepler :)

Nope. Kepler is coming Q1 2012'ish depending on if theres any delay. Sandybridge E is coming in Nov 2011.

hmm so if i upgrade say mid december, ill have until mid april to do the 90 day step up program...think that will cut it :p

AFAIK step up is only 90 days so that'll put you in mid march which IMO is too big of a gamble as things are looking like it may be late march at the earliest, perhaps early April even.

Q1 is unlikely, I'd probably say Q3. Last I heard nvidia's plan is to release a 28nm refresh of Fermi first, and even that's a long way off yet.

Where did you hear this out of curiousity?

It's all discussion at this stage, but stuff like this -

This isn't the only article where this has been said.

if that is correct, that sucks....i was hoping for kepler with SB-E....DAMNIT!

Any reason you're looking at Sandy Bridge -E processors for gaming? They're not really going to be any faster per-core than the i5 2500K and i7 2600K, just have more cores - which at the moment, aren't very relevant for games.

3 way sli/crossfire with powerfull next-gen gpu's should benefit alot for gaming with Sandy Bridge-E.

You can do that with regular sandy bridge - 4x bandwidth doesn't lose you that much, and if you really want, you can get boards with the nf200 chip for extra bandwidth. LGA2011 will be an improvement I'm sure, but pretty minor, 10-20% improvements in the absolute best case scenario at this stage, unless the way games work radically changes soon.

maybe with today's tech 4x might be enough but not in the future when gpu's are putting out 3-4x+ the data.

You'll be waiting a long while for that. Up to this point it has taken typically 5 years to reach 4x the performance (let alone 4x the data), but now that silicon progress is slowing it may be 7 or 8 years before we see that sort of increase on current hardware - longer still for that much data usage.
