Bought a Seagate 80gb 5400RPM thats out of warranty. He said it didnt report no errors before he shipped. Fails SMART test using Seagates online test. So I tried the DOS method(what he used). Does the same thing using the quick method.
So I run the full. Well it finds several bad sectors on the HDD and asks if I want to try and write zeros to the sectors to try and fix them and it does. Said it fixes them all. Afterwared I run full test again through DOS and it passes fine. But still gives a error using the online brower testing(both quick and full).
He was wanting $25 for it since its old and out of warranty. But I told him the only way I would really take a chance on it is if it was cheaper so hes asking $15. Should I even bother? I mean it could end up being a $15 paper weight in a week or could take a year. Is it possible it doesnt support SMART and thats why its getting the error?
Reason I ask is I don't know a whole lot about HDD's
Thx
