I just got F.E.A.R. platinum Ed a few days ago and for some reasson i cant play it, it will crash during a cutscene or just when its attempting to load a level..

when i checked the blue screen error, it sead something about drive not equal for Viahduaa.sys

Before you say, check to see if you have the latest drivers, I do, they are updated to the latest Via driver.. so im not quite sure what to do now..

the mobo is Asus M3A78 http://uk.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=5pvgDAXJUV2orYzn

So.. any idea what i can do that does not involve getting a sound card?

trying using drivercleaner to get any trace of drivers out, then reinstall driver. also check to be sure latest version of directx installed.

if that doesnt work you can lower the hadrware acceleration on the sound from the control panel

Well you are running onboard audio which is never 100% perfect for gaming IMO. Via is a smaller player in the onboard space then Realtek is. If you have the latest drivers there is just something about that game in it's current version that doesn't like the VIA drivers.

If it continues to happen I would suggest possibly going to a dedicated sound card which will be better for you in the end especially if you FPS game a lot. Headphones sound much better on dedicated cards.

hum.. well what would be a good but cheap card to get? nothing high end or anything..

xonar dg can be had for less than 40$ shipped from newegg. i would call this the best gamers budget card

That card is no better then your onboard solution. You should look for an Asus card or a Creative card at one of your local outlets if you do not want to order online.

Well the thing is I do have about 19 dollars in paypal but thats about all i own t hat would have to cover shipping and the general price of a sound card :/ thats why im hitting a wall :/

Like i sead not lookin for something high end, just something that i can trust will let my games and programs run and not crash or blue screen on me like this VIA POS does
