I just got a 790I from EVGA stepup and should I keep it or sell it since I know there as been alot of problems in the pass. Are there still major problems? If so what are they. Owners of the 790I please tell me if you had any problems with your boards.

PS: I cant test it since I don't have DDR3 ram.

I just built the following system for a client:

* Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450
* EVGA 132-CK-NF79-A1
* 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 (9-9-9-26)
* 512MB BFG GeForce 8800GT OC
* Two 74GB Western Digital Raptors (WD740ADFD)
* Two 500GB Seagate Barracudas (ST3500320AS) in a RAID 1 array
* LG GH20NS10 SATA DVD-RW
* Linksys WMP300N
* Seasonic S12 Energy Plus 650W
* Antec P182 Mid-Tower

I've upgraded the motherboard to the latest BIOS release (P06 for the 790i Ultra, available in the EVGA forums), it's running Windows XP Professional x64 Edition SP2, and I've run into no hardware issues whatsoever. It seems like a really solid board so far.

Oh, and the video card in the above system will be upgraded later ;)

I have had my board for several months now, and its been flawless. P06 BIOS makes it even better.

Just make sure you dont eve flash the bios on windows.
Always use floppy disks or burn it on a cd with a burning tool (the windows one doesnt work)

I've had a 790i sine late April. It's a screamer when everything is working. The problems I had were with SLI - freezing when SLI enabled. I'm not sure if it was P06 bios or the 175.19 drivers or a fresh XP32 installed that fixed it since I did all three at the same time. I'd go with EVGA every time. EVGA is a good company and worthy of customer loyalty. Nvidia on the other hand is slimey. They're all about milking customers from every possible angle and don't deliver products that work properly when they hit the market. They consistently use their customers as beta testers. Dump a product on the market. Sucker you in with slick marketing and promises. Eventually... they figure out where the bugs are and release bios and drivers that fix the problems. By then they're already into their next product series launch. Nvidia is pathetic for those reasons. But no... don't sell it. The 790i works fine now. It's definitely a performance MB now.

it was a good board ive had one.... but it kept crashing and hard locking randomly with everything stock, especially when i would play videos. and it wasnt the graphics card i shoved it in a P35 and it worked flawless.

maybe they have that worked out now but other than that thats the only bad thing i can say about it... i didnt have any raid problems with a couple raptors.

If you don't really need it then you would be better off with maybe a 750i FTW board they are only about $190 and are great boards and you would have some extra cash for something else you want to upgrade or maybe just buy some cookies?

I dont have an evga one but mine has been perfect since march. I am now running 3 way sli with no problems either. Great board all around.

U wanna game on 30" LCD? If yes keep it If No sell it. Aint worthy, get P45 and buy single powerful card you can afford.

It seems like a really solid board so far.
...And then I installed another 4GB of RAM (only had 4GB in there initially; had been waiting on the second 4GB kit to ship). Now it's unstable (freezing, memory errors, false SMART errors) at every configuration I've tried so far, from 1066MHz@1.5V and default timings to 1333MHz@1.8V and 9-9-9-20... I told him to go with an Intel platform, but he really wanted SLi.

I've got the XFX 790i Ultra. The first 3-4 weeks I was getting lockups every day. Talked to XFX tech and he told me the 790i bios doesn't like to run memory on Auto. On auto, the bios was maintaining 1.5 volt on the memory when Corsair said it should be 1.7 volts. Changed bios to manual, set memory at 1.7 volts. Set timings on manual also even though they were showing correct. No more lockups since and that's been 6-7 weeks. I am running XP Pro on one disk and Vista Ultimate on the other disk(32 bit) No problems anywhere.

QFT. I had the same poblem with my Asus Striker II Extreme. I think too that this was the cause of a lot of misery with this board. I picked up on this reading through posts out there and it was really the only thing I had to do to make this board rock stable.

I've had this board for 3 months now, runnin 24x7, with the 3 GTX 280's for a month now and I just don't have any problems.

Keep it. Get a highly clocked Penryn in there and you can wait it out on Nehalem for a while.

I voted no, not because of anything wrong with the board, but because the fact that you don't even have any DDR3 around. Why did you buy such an expensive board if you weren't even going to have the parts around to build it up? Sell it and get something cheaper.

My plan was to do DDR3 and wait but I kinda change my mind. but I also wanted to know if there was still problems with it.

Sell it. I had a 780i board and the price wasn't even worth it. I encountered annoying errors and performance issues which really annoyed me, and now I'm using a P45 board which solved all my problems. Not too mention that the 780/790i boards are overpriced and has its issues.

I just wish that the x48/P45 boards would also support SLI, I guess we can blame NVIDIA for that.

Its a decent board overall, but I am just not in favor of nvidia chipsets anymore.

For a intel chip,its best to use an intel chipset really,their chip,their chipset,do the math :)

The x38/x48/p45 chipsets seem to be working out pretty well,there are some good ocs from these chipsets.My p35 was not too bad,but i like to keep up with the jones :p

EVGA 790i with sata raid 9450@3500, EVGA 750i q6600 both rock solid. I don't doubt there were problems initially but I've had absolutely none. I'd suggest being careful on the ram selection. Both systems built within the last two months.

My 780i is rock solid, and my friend, who has a 790i, is enjoying the hell out of it for several months now. I vote keep.

After working with an OCZ tech, we were able to isolate a questionable stick of RAM and the retailer was nice enough to swap it for a replacement (luckily he had another matching 4GB kit in stock). Everything's rock solid now, so I'm giving the board my seal of approval... Though it is awfully expensive.

I have had the XFX 790i Ultra and the only thing ULTRA about it the ULTRA amount of problems that I have had with it. 2 1/2 months and I have yet to see a bios screen Total junk !! Damn thing won't even boot And I am using "new" my replacement board..I would never buy another XFX product again. All the new computer equipment I bought including a Coolermaster 1000 case has been beat up and scratched just going from one computer repair shop to the next and spending a considerable amount of money and time and aggravation just screwing around with this abortion. Beware of this board. I know this is negative but these guys deserve a negative review if they are selling junk, which they are. The question that should be asked and answered is: Of the total amount of 790i boards what percent of buyers are having problems with the board. I don't care if it comes in a pretty box ,.. the damn thing doesn't work period. Sure this kind of review will affect sales but if they are selling junk reviews like this one SHOULD affect sales. I don't know these guys, ( I was suckered by the slick advertising) but I stepped up and bought ( what I thought was ) a good board and with a q9300 chip and 8800gt videocard I thought it should be a good set up. WRONG!!! I just wish I could turn back the clock to the day I placed my order,.. because I would tell them to cancel the order.

I ve got 4 GB of corsair XMS ram and mine freezes requiring hard restart ALL THE TIME. I cant play Bioshock or Crysis for mor ethan 10 mins without it crashing. Im still not sure if its data corruption or my 4GB of ram (due to what someone else mentioned earlier in this thread). The only saving grace is that it runs rock solid in XP, but who cares my 4GBs can only be fully realized in vist x64. i hope i can unload this board on ebay or something. XFX 790i Ultra. I would also like to add that i havent even considered overclocking it yet because it never ran right to begin with. I wish i had bought the rampage formula, but then i read the [H]OCP 790i Ultra stability review. Last mention, i bought this board last week so this is as recent as it gets
