Ok, so I had my main system below clocked to about 2.6 and was running like a champ, nice and stable. Not the greatest 3d marks, Somwhere around 22k on '01 and 11k on '03. Anyways, 2 days after building it I wake up to find that I can't access the net. I play it off as a dsl issue and has some errands to run anyways.

So I come back and still no access, I check my other PC that is running off of that router and it works fine... Uh oh....

Well I checked device manager and there's a conflict in the driver, so I dowload the latest driver, uninstall/reinstall the driver and BAM! NIC reinstalled, but not internet access. I could not access anything via IE or network shares. Ok, well the NICs activity light are blinking, but not much, so I scan for viruses, I did have it running Prime all night long to check stability with no firewall softare or antivirus... No go.

So I chalk it up to Win XP being borked. So I reinstall (forgot I had another NIC to try).

No go, now it doesn't even show up in device manager.
So I slap in a PCI NIC and it works great.... ANYWAYS.... HERE'S THE CURRENT PROBLEM:

The SM Bus controller in system devices has a conflict. I reinstall the driver and it still has a conflict (from the CD and the net). I also notice this high pitched noise coming from the mobo kinda like if your CRT is going dead. I called and ordered another board and I'll have it today. Here is the funky thing.... I didn't think of running 3d mark until last night since this problem started.... My friggin score went down 3,000... yes, 3K points. Holy cow! This sound like it's a mobo issue? I'm hoping so, guess I'll find out tonight. What's your take on this people?

i've got a k8n neo too.. i can't say i've ever really had your problem. sometimes the built in firewall will get screwed up and i'll have to reboot, but that's nvidia's fault for not even having drivers for the damn thing on their website. i'd recommend reinstalling all the drivers.. CLEANLY! and make note of what order you put them in. if you still have problems, go into the web based interface for the firewall and disable it, the problems should go away

I'm just getting a new one today and reinstalling the OS - I was just wondering peoples opinions, but not as weird of a problem as i thought i guess.

I have reinstalled drivers and flashed the bios and reinstalled the OS, i'm done with this one. Just trying to see if people thought something could have happened to the proc through all of this, but oh well.... guess I'll find out for myself

Update:

With this new mobo - Aside from no conflicts in DM and working ethernet

3dMark '03 went up 150 points
3dMark '01 went up 1,300 points
Aquamakr went up 2,400 points

In conclusion..... The old mobo was crap

Thread can be closed Relic :p
