K7VTA3 Problems!

I've got a ECS Elitegroup K7VTA3 (8.0) Series motherboard. since last night, I have tried installing the following:

Windows 2000 Professional

Windows 2000 Advanced Server

Windows 2003 Server

Windows XP Professional

Windows 2000 throws stop errors, everything from Pool problems dealing with memory, etc. Same with 2000 advanced server. 2003 server install complained that the hard disk is "damaged" (no it isn't, it works perfectly fine) and can't format/install anything.

Right now windows XP just tossed a error, and it is as follows:

BAD_POOL_CALLER

Technical Information: STOP: 0X000000C2 (0X00000040, 0X004D0000, 0X80000000, 0X0000000)

I'm truly at wits end, and sooooo sick of this motherboard.

It's got a 1.5 ghz AMD Athlon XP 1800+ processor on it, 512 X 2 Samsung PC3200 ram, a 40 gig ibm deskstar hard disk hooked up to it, and also a 120 gig maxtor drive (trying to install a os onto the 40 gig)

what do I do? rip this thing out and smash it to pieces? i'm pretty much at that point, I'm fedup with trying everything microsoft says to do like disabling all the onboard hardware, etc etc etc.

Is there a diagnostic program (free, not paying for what should be free in the first place, like how dell has a diagnostic program for their systems you can get for free) that I can burn to a CD and boot into to run a very extensive test of this board to determine if it is a junker or keeper?

edit: if it helps also, I have gotten about 2-3 irql_not_less_or_equal stop errors also, nothing will solve this!

the installs glitch on copying files to the disk, usually around the 30,40,50% marks, 2000 professional usually glitches near 93%, saying it can't copy files so I skip it and then after skipping 3-5 other files, out comes the stop error.

I'm leaning towards a harddrive problem, since it is a deathstar and the error happens during the coping files to disk. You might want to try to unplug your deathstar and just try to install with just your maxtor connected.

how would that be possible though? I know about the deathstar problems, yet I ran a test on the drive using the hitachi program and it claims it is fine. It ran fine when I pulled it out of the old dell I had it in.

About the only thing I can think of is that the weird "chirping" noise I heard is maybe the deathstar failing? every now and then in the dell I would hear pretty much a noise that sounded like chirping. Guess I'll rip the 40 gig out and try a 15 gig in it later.

Thanks for your help!
