Hello folks!

I've bought a new pc and some troubles putting it together. Hope you can help me:

I've bought a AsRock k7upgrade-880 motherboard and a Asus - V9400-X/TD/128MB, GeForce MX 4000 video card.
My trouble is, that on the agp-slots on the motherboards, there is stickers saying, that only the right type of AGP card should go in the slot. On the one it says:

"This AGP slot only supports K7 AGP Interface when you adobt an AMD K7 CPU running ths MB. Please do not use a 3.3 V AGP card on the AGP slot of this MB. It may cause permanent damage."

On the other it says the same, but with K8 instead og K7.

I use a AMD Athlon Barton XP 3200+/400, SokkelA CPU.

Witch slot should i use?

Thanx for the quick reply!

Actually there is 3 agp slots. One for the thing you linked to - witch i now know is the 3.3 V card - and to where the stickers i quoted are on. Is there any difference between these to?
I mean: What is the difference between K7 and K8 agp?

i can't tell you for sure but i think the difference is only the placement of the bridge card when you upgrade to a athlon 64 using the bridge card the k7 agp slot will be hidden so you won't be able to use it. i am not sure about it but that would be my guess. let me know how that mobo works out becouse i plan on buying one myself.

your XP is a K7, if you use that card the bridge, it would be an a64 which is a K8, since you are using a K7 cpu use the agp slot that is labeled K7 AGP.

My guess is that you use the K7 AGP slot when you have a K7 chip. When you go to K8 (Athlon 64) you're getting a different memory controller & northbridge. They probably decided it was easier/cheaper/more reliable to just have a separate AGP port for this.

3.3V AGP is a different issue. Older 1x and 2x AGP cards used 3.3V signals - newer stuff runs at lower voltages. Putting a 3.3V card in a 1.5V or 0.8V AGP slot (which you probably shouldn't be able to physically do) could potentially cause damage to the motherboard.
