Just found this great guide on getting the program to work. You can use task scheduler to run it in the background with no system tray icon even, uses less than 1MB of RAM on my system.

The program lets you change the multiplier and voltage of each of the P-States for your processor when CnQ is on. Then you can choose to have Windows control it as usual or let the program manage it, which I do. You can set the multiplier and voltage to change per core (unganged clock management), which is awesome for power saving - if you're playing an intensive single threaded game you will have 1 core at full speed and the others at the lowest speed due to the dual power planes of the K10 design.

I have my four P-states on my Phenom II 555 unlocked to X3 set to these values:

P0 - 3456MHz, 1.2875v
P1 - 2808MHz, 1.150v
P2 - 1836MHz, 0.950v
P3 - 864MHz, 0.775v

Thanks for the heads up! I might have to consider it for the core based clock changes but how responsive is it? I have had lots of issues in the past with C&C failing to drop back into state or going to full during some games. Going Bios C&C helped stop this so I am hesitant.
 
note it only work if you have a dual power plane motherboard as well on that last part you were talking about with the various core speeds per core depending on load.. if your motherboard doesnt have a dual power plane then the p-states are locked across all cores and cant change independently..

Interesting. Do you know of any way to tell if a board supports dual power planes? I haven't found a utility that tells the CPU speed by core so I don't know of any way to test..

AFAIK, all AM2+ and AM3 boards support it because they were designed with Phenom's in mind since they utilized dual power planes. Socket AM2 predated Phenom, thus it only had limited Phenom support.

sadly not all.. almost all the boards that do not support x6 processors are single power plane.. easy way to tell is look in your bios and see if it has a NB voltage option.. if it doesnt then its most likely a single power plane since the NB and CPU voltage have to be exactly the same with single power plane.. x6's its mandatory to use dual power planes which is why theres a bunch of biostar boards that dont support them.. its one of the down falls to AMD allowing motherboard manufactures the freedom to do what ever they want on the boards..

My X6 not runs at 1.5Ghz at 1v, then 3.2Ghz at 1.287, and finally 4.0Ghz at 1.47. All together you can control 4 p-states(Deneb) or 5(Thuban).

most of MSI's boards are dual power plane.. they just dont use high end mosfets which is why they are dying left and right with the thuban processors running mild overclocks..

I actually do like this one better. Not nearly as much trouble to get it working right, and you can set CPU speed by core. This lets me actually get an X4 out of my 555 without resorting to high voltage or low MHz by doing something like this

1.3v
core0 @ 3800MHz
core1 @ 3600MHz
core2 @ 3600MHz
core3 @ 3200MHz

I'm leaving the fourth core disabled anyway because of heat and power reasons and nothing I use takes advantage anyway, but nice to know that it's there if I want.

ocing by core, the next big thing :rolleyes: Try it on your X6, it won't be an incredible pain in the ass or anything

Do you mean a Mod Bios?

I wish Biostar would update their stuff better. I've had great luck with their boards. I'm still rocking a 939-6100 with an Opteron 175 and 3GB of Patriot low latency ddr2 for the wife.

Get with the program Biostar, or I'll have to switch to Gigabyte.
 
Question.. How do you set per core settings.

I have a core that for some reason wants to be the idiot of the bunch and I need to set it lower for this overclock but for the life of me I cant figure out how to do it with K10stat. I do have a dual plane mobo.
 
Bump. Anybody using this or phenommsrtweaker still? I'm using msrtweaker 2.0.4 now, and upgraded to a 955 from my 555 @ X3 (was a free upgrade).

3.6GHz with 1.30v
1.6GHz with 0.925v

I've found there isn't much point to more than two states.
