JVC HAR-X900 Mod tutorial

Do the first step guys. Take that damn blanket off the drivers. It is super easy and makes the highs and everything else better.

I removed most of the felt off. The right side glue wasn't that strong so half of the felt is completely removed off the plastic, the left side still has that thin layer on it. I plan on removing them completely. I've already noticed the improvements on the highs. I'm going to do the dynamat part later when I can find some of the stuff for dirt cheap.

should you take off all the felt? Or just the top layer? Will it let dust and crap into the driver?

Just the top layer. There is another finer layer below which will do fine in conjunction with the fine mesh cover of the earpad.

The 700s should have this felt too yes. It is very easy to do and totally worth the effort.

The felt mod really brings them up another notch. Very natural sounding headphones. Never bright.

Would a heat gun or hair dryer help loosen the glue holding down the felt? Knowing that one side is half off and the other side has the thin felt still on is bothering me on an ocd level. Also, would the heat damage the drivers?

@FinalAura: Start pulling the pad off from the front/thin side and work your way to the rear/thick side.

So i got them off and took off some of the blanket. Now highs are a bit harsh, lol. The "s" sound in vocals are piercing sometimes. Hmm... Highs definitely improved none the less. Maybe a little too much.

Are you running it straight from the X-Fi? If so, turn down or off the crystalizer and listen to music in audio creation mode.

Good stuff, its not so harsh in audio creation mode. However, theres a hiss that occurs when no sound is playing... Is that normal? I don't really understand the settings in audio creation mode. Is there a proper setting?
