The PSU cost me 80$ and it has been working for the past 6 months so far! So don't bitch at me about how it's unreliable and is going to explode any moment.

Anyway, I was curious if this PSU would be able to power a 8800GTX.
E6300(Minor OC...Like 20mhz on the FSB)
Asus P5L-MX
1 7200RPM HDD
1 CD/DVD burner
Yea..Not much. You think it'll be able to power it? I assume my system is only taking 175W max on load. (Not sure the power consumption of my E6300...Did research and still can't find out specific power draw of the CPU itself)

I have 40A on the 12V so I assume my system should be able to run a 8800GTX with ease.

do know that EXPENSIVE DOES NOT MEAN GOOD.

Also, the reason it hasn't exploded, is because your pc does not draw a lot of power. Period.

The UL number is too small to make out, but I have a hunch it's not a good psu.

Then, it's not 40a either. Combined wattage on the rails = 38a.

Buy a new psu. Try a Corsair HX 520, they're reliable and under $100 at Zipzoomfly.

Right... That's why I OCed my E6300 to 3.6ghz on this with a 8800GTS also OCed to 640/1950. With a RAID going. Yeah, I knew I should haven't asked this place.

Right it will work, until the day it doesn't and takes something expensive with it. Thats the M.O. of most sub-par power supplies. That day might not come for every supply in a 'family', or for you, but personally I'm not a gambler with thousands worth of equipment when I could have shelled out 20 more bucks to reduce the chance to almost nil.

Don't bother trying to convince him, he's already decided not to listen. He'll have to learn the hard way, about 30 minutes after he installs the GTX.

Ah, yeah forgot it actually has 38A... Whole 456/12=38 math goin'... Sort of forgot. Anyway, still great. I am probably going to wait for 8900s(awesome!) or R600(pathetic).

well, if you don't want to listen to anyone tell you anything, you're probably right on about not asking. it might work just fine, it might blow out and kill your $600 video card. if you're willing to risk that money, don't buy a new, reputable psu. if you aren't, i'd say you might want to switch to the corsair unit mentioned earlier. seems to be the best price : performance around right now.
