is it true that if they crap out that you're SOL and all data is gone? do they seem to have a higher rate of dying over HDD? that looks to be the only complaint i see on amazon and newegg is "died within x amount of months" and usually its within 6 months.

i know all technology is susceptible to failure and that theres always a risk, but if the failure then leads to not being able to retrieve data, is it worth it?
 
You're looking at a biased sample of netnerds, n00biez, and dweebs. SSDs are solid state. Enjoy.
 
I'm SSD on my 4 systems except for the server. No issues here.

PS the real speed difference between the ultimate (expensive) and medium expensive is not seen in daily use.

They are all fast compared to HD :)
 
Any type of hard drive can die on you, whether it is a spinning disc or a solid state. To my knowledgw SSD's are no more prone to crapping out than HDD's. I found out the hard way that it pays to make regular backups of my data. The drive that died was a regular HDD.
Backup your data. Problem solved
