Picked up my new HS95P at CompUSA and got home around an hour ago. Paid $620 even pIus tax, for total of $671. I have the $100 rebate form already printed out. I made the following adjustments so far:

backlight : 30
contrast : 70
brightness : 50
color : 6500K
Gamma : 2
sharpness : 5

I may have a couple of dead pixels on the far right towards the bottom, but they are so very tiny I had to search for them. The black is great on this display. The color awesome and text is good. Turned on clear type right away. It feels small to me as I am used to my mammoth 75 pound 22" flat aperture wire grille IIyama. I loved it but the vertical settings were resizing intermittently. This sits much lower than my old IIyama and the 21" Viewsonic shadow mask next to it sits about 3 inches higher so it's not an elegant look.

The back of the monitor faces a south window. When it is dark in a few hours I will check for backlight bleed and make a more thorough exam later. I'll load some games and a couple of DVDs tomorrow.

This is my first LCD. Using DVI cable with Sapphire 9600XT. Any questions, please free to ask.

Sure, but I only have a 1.3 megapixel Olympus point and shoot. I'm charging the camera batteries now and waiting until It's dark outside.

I was so tired yesterday when I set up the new monitor but I played with it and got it looking good after a few minutes. Using Dead Pixel Buddy, I discovered two dead pixels off to the far right towards the bottom a couple of inches above the clock. After reading about dead pixels, I thought they would be these big glaring defects. If not for DPB I am sure I would have never noticed, Even now I'm not sure which color they are...red? green?
What's the difference between a pixel and a sub-pixel? I mean these are such tiny specs I have no problem with them. HOWEVER, when it was finally dark, I set DPB to black and noticed a whiteish light along the sides. From what I have read, this is fairly typical right? (It's one thing to research and read dozens of threads and another to have one on the desk). Anyway, I did notice some uneven backlight in the center about 60% down on the screen and that's knawing at me. I went to my neighbor's house and his cheap Scepter had more even backlight.

This monitor came with a CD for adjusting and it assumed the user would be using the analog cable only. It said to look to see if there were vertical lines and to adjust the pitch until they were no longer visible. Well, there is no button option for that when using DVI. I saw the vertical lines, so what's the deal?

I copied and pasted numerous settings from various posts here and used those as a template to get it looking just right. The monitor is very crisp and the color rich. Black looks black and text is very, very good. I bought this at CompUSA locally so I could return it without the hassle of an RMA. Just wondering if I should wait and see if the backlight evens out. Does it? Or does it say the same or get worse?

I'm an LCD noob even after spending the last couple of weeks reading thread after thread here as well as other sites. So any help or suggestions are welcome. I'm still getting used to this and I have found my eyes having to really adjust to the difference in reading a lot of text. It looks good, but different. I lowered the brightness and backlight down by 5 or so and upped the contrast to 75. Btw, the backlight is not bad, not like the thread with the pic of the Dell, but it's there albiet faintly in the center and along the sides.
