Well, I just received it today.

(expect a full review soon)

Overall impression was pretty good.
I definitely do notice the grainyness (very minimal). but I think that's more or less caused by the antiglare-coating.

So far I found 1 dead pixel , which is really hard to notice.

but one thing that bothers me is the uneven backlight.

Let me ask a question for the 2001fp owners, how many of you have the problem?

Also, how bad is it?

If I set a totally black screen, it's uneven everywhere. (top right, bottom middle, bottom left...)

But when there's more color (desktop use, web, games), it's really hard to notice..

I wouldn't mind if it was just a minimal spot.. but it's pretty big.. and it's everywhere.

I 'm guessing I need to return it.. =(

I love the clarity of the fonts though...

I'm waiting on hold for dell tech support.. (been on hold for 25 mins) =(

I'll post an update later.

Is it a big difference over that 2070 you had or have? Besides space was it worth it?

I am thinking the Dell pivot software is a myth! I cannot find it anywhere.

Backlighting: Maybe its just me but How often do people look at all black screens. My Dell has top right backlight issue. Only time I notice it is during power up and playing letterbox movies, Oh wow, "whoop dee do". You want perfection double the price and pray.

Bad pixels: I can't and will not stand bad pixels in middle of screen, outside edge maybe!

I am afraid to return my monitor to Dell for fear of endless returns to get perfect monitor. I have Zero bad pixels now, so to me its a keeper. Backlight probs I don't care about when I can't see them during normal computing and gaming.

I wouldn't mind if it was the top right portion.. but mine's all over.. seriously.. =)

- Honestly, the text is much better than the 2070sb.. or any other CRT for that matter. But color reproduction is definitely not upto par.. ( I will be calibrating it once I receive the replacement), but it still won't come close to my Mitsu...

I bought this mainly because of the space..
So , for me it was worth it.. because of the space savings.

If I had the extra space, I would pick the mitsu over this any day...=)

also, where do I download the dell pivot software anyways?

go here for very easy instructions on how to enable that feature.

i did that, but pivot feature via ati control panel is extremely slow...

I'm using the shareware of pivot pro, and it switches in an instant.

Sounds like your backlight is way bad. Of the two I purchased one had backlighting issues along with the 19 stuck subpixels. That guaranteed it was getting exchanged. The replacement had perfect backlighting, 8 stuck subpixels, and one dead blue subpixel. Since I can only see these defects when my face is one inch from a black screen I'll keep it.

For the exchange, I took a hint from the forums here and did it through email. It is mostly easy if you can accept some delay in their communication and status.

My 2001FP Experience:
Well my first panel had 2 stuck pixels not noticable at all but the backlite was way bad you could see it on over 1/2 the screen even on a XP desktop with color on! My second had a very good backlite and had 3 subpixels stuck on which was not bothersome because you could only see them on a very dark screen but on boot it would not sync to a good resolution and give me an error message that DVI-D cannot display this mode and would sometimes give me a out of sync condition where all the pixel were spotty and off color and then the classic on boot of the 20-30 percent of green pixels being lit bright and having to turn the monitor off and then back on to get it to look right! 3rd panel no stuck pixels or subpixels no pixels unlit but slight backlite problem upper RHS, right at the edge of the monitor not bothersome at all and the screen door effect they all have but maybe it's a little more noticable on this particular panel. The backlite has slowly toned itself down since I 1st got it and so this is a keeper for me as my VP171b has backlight leakage along the edge also! Very good sign seems there is alot of talk about backlite issues with alot of LCD panels made by different maufacture's.

yup both the words "charm" and "free" are always nice when they are used in the same sentence. :D

also, my monitor is pretty weird.

When I boot the computer, sometimes the monitor will be fine up until after the windowsxp loading screen, but when the login screen should come up - the screen is blank... if I turn off and turn back on the monitor, the picture is there...

Also, when I did my first cold boot (after leaving it off overnight) -
I notice bunch of weird colored pixels just jumping around..
But the same procedure as before (off and on) remedied it.

I heard the jumping pixel is fixed by setting your DVI frequency lowere in display settings. but does that affect the display or graphic card in any way? (e.g. degrade image quality , etc)
Is that something normal with this monitor?
When I try to set it at lower DVI frequency, it gives me a warning - stating that I am running it DVI on unsupported speeds and that it may give me display corruption or no image....

Anyone?

Thanks.

Well does it work to do it that way?
Mine was doing the same thing so I sent it back to Dell and my replacement doesn't do this! So I now know that my monitor was my problem and not my video card settings!
