After I spent a few weeks comparing it to the ViewSonic VX2025WM (which I decided against because of the backlighting and scaling problems), AL2051W (out of stock where I looked, and I wasn't sure if my room could handle a glossy display), and LG L203WTX ($500 is way over my budget).

I've heard most of the problems were taken care of in the newest revision, but I have seen a lot of talk about dead pixels. Anyone care to chime in? Also, how's the stand?

Thanks.

Unfortunately the current sale is suspected to be to get rid of their old/defective models - horrible business practice. Their forum customer support guy says as of now you're not promised a revised panel unless you purchase after July 5th. If you don't want to go through the exchange hastle you might want to cancel.

What's Dell's return policy? I know I have 21 days to exchange the monitor without any problems, but could I get my money back?

I'm checking out their forum now.

Wow, that is horrible buisness practise.

Just out of curiousity (because I've been absent from the display sector for several months), what exact problems were occuring with the 2007FPWs?

I'm going to be buying a 20'/21' widescreen spring of next year (07) and have been considering the 2007FPW (granted something newer doesn't come out by then).

Anywho, thanks for your help.

Yeah, a hint should have been that Dell usually emails single use coupons for their monitor specials instead of just generally marking the prices down so much.

The 2007FPW was having a major problem with color banding. I saw some pictures that were obscenely banded, gradiants being displayed with only 2-3 color steps at the worst.

B.W.: If you get a defective model, you don't have to actually return it. Head over to the Dell Forums Display section and you'll see a bunch of stickies. One of them instructs you to PM the board moderator and he'll arrange to have a fixed monitor shipped to you with a pre-paid return label.

So, either way you'll eventually get a revised monitor, it may just be a bit of a hastle.

By that time, I think you may want to get a 24". Anyway, there'll be defintely released more 20" model then.

If that's the case, I'll risk it.
