I would just like everyone to know i ordered my e1505
I had a total of $1000 budget for a laptop and i decided to go this route. I will make a first payment of $1000 and pay off the rest with minimum payments

I am a gamer and I know this won't be able to do game well but I didn't think i was going to get a gaming laptop for $1000. This is a $2100 laptop I got for $1300

I am very happy

I wanted to get the 60GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive but the person said that DELL no long sell the e1505's with 7200rpm hard drives. I was very upset about this and after 15min of battling I gave up and just got the 80GB

when i get it i will be glad to run every and all test requested.

any questions, just ask

I think I'm about to do the same on pretty much the same system. I'm probably going to ask about the 7200 RPM drive, so I'll let you know if they lied to you, that is if I decide to do this.

im waiting on almost exactly the same system except i snagged mine under the "6400" name from small business

Very odd. When logging into Dell.com the 60GB 7200rpm drive shows up as available option. I would call and cancel my order and just order over the web to get what you want.

i said that and the person on the phone said that I would get an e-mail saying that there is an error and it would have to be changed

andrew,

i see you used the $750 off $2,000 coupon, but how did you get the $50 off? was it something you worked out with the dell rep?

so did the rep not give you a "special" discount, or did you not haggle with him?

Honestly, I think that's bull. A 60GB 7.2k drive is a 60GB 7.2k drive. Dell has them, they sell them with the E1705, they offer them on the web for the 1505 through Home, SB, and Edu.

Seriously, call back and cancel the order and place it on the web, if they ask you why, say that you want the 7.2k drive.

I ordered mine this morning. The phone rep just had me order through the website because of the 7200 RPM drive thing. We'll see if they actually give it to me, but I doubt it.

Got mine for $1390.92 to my door.
2GHz Core Duo
1 GB ram
x1400
DVD burner
9 cell battery
SXGA screen
60 GB 7200 HDD
Intel 3945 and Dell 350 Bluetooth Wireless Cards
Windows Media with its backup CD
and Microsoft Works Suite

did you use the $750 off $2000 coupon when you ordered online?

or did the rep give you a special coupon code?

p.s. is the reason no one is ordering the 1705 is because it's just too damn big and heavy?

Yeah, I used the $750 off. I was trying to get the phone rep to hook me up, but the HDD thing threw a wrench into my plans.

I decided to go with the E1505 because of the size. Many say that 17" laptops are just too big to carry around, so I took their advice in good faith. Besides that, the E1505 will probably get better battery life. I would have liked to get a tablet, but they just aren't powerful enough and are much too expensive.

if the e1705 had the Go 7800 i would have bought that no question

but it will be hard enough for the x1400 to power 1680x1050 in games not to mention the 1920 x 1200

yeah, good point andrew.

that $750 off coupon is still a sweet deal. too bad about the hdd problem.

i'm thinking about getting an e1505 myself.

does anyone think they'll offer a better deal than the $750 off coupon for the e1505 in the 10 days of deals?

p.s. that last post changed my status from "noobie" to [H]Lite. sweet

I really doubt it. I think that $750 off is the best it's getting. Not to imply that $750 dollars off is a bad deal or anything, it's awesome. I've never seen Dell run anything better than the $750 off of $2000 before, though I've only really been looking for about half a year. Sometime they have the 35% coupons, but you would have to set up a pretty expensive laptop for that to be a better deal. This is why I pulled the trigger now.

Now I just need to wait for another good deal on the 2005FPW's.

You will be very happy. I bought a few mos. back the Acer 5670 Core Due T2300 with X1400 512MB HyperMemory and 120 gig 5400 SATA with Slot Load DVD Multi DL and 2 gig DDR2, and I am very happy and play lots of games on it. They run great. Of course mine has the CrystalBrite WXGA 15.4 and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR so, the resolution is not 1920x1200 but every games plays great. Have fun. You'll be happy.

I just called up and made the switch to the 60gb 7200rpm HDD

happy now

I was wondering I got the 1 year at home warranty what did you guys get?
If i drop to the 1 year mail in warranty I will still be at $2000 and be able to use the coupon.
So do you guys think that at home service is worth the extra $70 How many people actually use at home repair in the first year.

so i'm trying to set up a deal like andrew's and guess what...

the $750 code has expired!

i'm guessing it's due to 4,000 uses. the rest of the codes still work.

if i call will they accept it over the phone?

what code are you using and make sure you are in the Home & Home Office area. It doen't work in any of the others

yeah, i used it in the home section.

i tried it on different configs for e1505s, e1705s and even other inspirons. none will take the $750 code anymore, but they will all take the $450.

i'm trying to set up a deal just like yours. i was able to set up a similar one, the differences being 1.83 dual core, no extra battery, remote or service plan. with the $450 coupon it's $50 more expensive than your deal.

do you think they'd still aceept the $750 if i call?

maybe its worth a try

Just tried it and both still works for me

8ZVX93PV6JT612

thanks andrew, the second one works for me!

don't know why, but the first one (the one i saw on techbargains) wasn't working for me. weird.

anyway, i'm going to set this deal up now.

should i add it to my cart and then call, or just call and have the rep set up the system, try to do some "social engineering", ask if he can give me a special deal, and then tell him about the $750 coupon?

my only concern about that strategy is that his special deal might take it below $1,999, which would obselete the coupon.

also, should i ask to set up the dell preferred plan to get your $50 mir?

how should i approach this?

I just called up gave my code went through the comp details and then tried to get some more out of her. She didn't give me anything else.

My suggestion would be to call up make the computer specs and see what kind of deal the person will give, then give the coupon if it will make it a better deal

ok, will post details when i've made the call.

also, do you know if it's possible to add the 7800 or audigy 2 zs to the e1505?

heres what i got, i really wish i would have selected the better graphics cards, although im not going to game with the computer, i will be doing alot of movies and photo editing

I had to battle hard for it and It was just what came up in the circumstances

I was going to go throught EPP but to keep me in Home and Home Office they gave me the free printer. I have 2 codes for 35% over $999 Inspiron notebooks on 2 for desktops I will offer them here if my family doen't need them so stay tunned.

andrew, i'll be the first in line for that 35% off inspiron coupon.

when you placed your order did you use that along with the $750 off $1,999 coupon, or just one of the two?

also, when you called back, how exactly did the discussion go?

teach me in the ways of negotiation.

:D

to use the "EPP" coupon you have to be a member of the EPP program which mean that either you school or business has a relation ship with dell.

If you go through "home and home office" you can only use the 750 off
If you go through "EPP" you can only use the 35% off

oh, ok. i guess you can give the coupons to someone else then.

thanks anyway.

p.s. so what's the scoop on landing the free printer?

so i made two calls today, the first one went for 50 minutes with a guy and the second for 40 minutes with a girl.

i tried every negotiation trick i know of and i couldn't get anything.

i told them i had the config saved in my cart, which they looked at. they then tried to "hook me up" with their manager's special, which wasn't that special after all. then when i tried to add the $750 coupon, they said they couldn't apply it to the manager's special and could only apply it to the base system.

so basically we were right back where we started.

after more negotiation, they both told me that there was literally no margin with the $750 coupon. they said if they could help, they would. the girl even went as far to tell me her max negotation limit of $125, but she couldn't even do that because of the high $750 coupon.

so, as i told them, if i can get the same price online i'll just order online. then when i told them that they tried to give me some bs about "the coupon might expire soon!" and some other excuses.

i was really disapointed because i thought i could get a special deal by calling, but i couldn't get anything.

do you think it was just the reps i talked to? if so, should i try back tomorrow before the coupon does expire?

thanks for the advice.

im sure many of you have heard this or even tried this, but if your buying it for home or school use it might be worth it to setup a dell SMB account. Last summer a lot of people got super sweet deals on the sc420's when they had that end of summer clearence sale. SMB can haggle the price a lot more then any of the other sections, and if you ask them about servers and wireless stuff it can be even better. I plan on doing this when I go in for the 6400 in a month or so.

so how bad is the Media Accelerator 950 compared to the ati cards?? im just wondering if it will be worth it if i dont plan on using it for any real gaming (more like a photoshop, website, illustrator, maybe some 3d , web surfing computer).

Cheers

My Computer Just shipped from dell. I have 3-5 day shipping so It will probably get here on 10 or 11. The problem is that I will be in LA from Sunday night till Thursday night so much time will be wasted with it just sitting in my room not being touched. :(
