AND HEY! all this will likely mean nothing to any of you but i feel like sharing the good news.

after about a month of waiting for it to get in stock, at either newegg or zipzoomfly(formerly googlegear), the MSI K8T master2-far finally got in and hey i ordered it. granted i have no cpu's for it but i didn't want to chance waiting another month.

i plan to be running dual 246 opterons with some 3200 ram, it wont be running at 3200 because with dual opterons i assume the memory pipe becomes unstable at the speed or whatever. It is forced to run at 2700 so hey whatever.

oh yeah it will be replacing my current mobo+cpu.

BTW little question, someone else look at the big cpu heatsink that comes with the mobo and tell me if you think it looks ALOT like a P4 spark5+ by thermaltake and if therefore the board uses the P4 bracket as aposed to the 940bracket. It is just a theory but someone else give me your thoughts.

and about the middle of next year you can upgrade to the dual-core opterons and jump straight to a quad proc setup.

*drool*

ill wait a year or 2 like i did with the regular opterons. They will be way to expensive on launch date.

oh shit Sojuuk, you'll be folding like a mad-man :D

btw, *stupid newbie question* i thought opteron boards didn't have an AGP slot, so how are you going to play games (if you are).

nah they got AGP's now

this isn't a high end server board just a desktop board with 2 slots.

and i don't intend to be folding cause i hog all my CPU usage for me!!!! ;)

cool@AGP

i hope that's not a serious statement about not folding? (our sarcasm detecors are down, Cap'n!)

heh, you HAVE to post SuperPI results, and how long it takes you to fold a work packet.

i bet it'll be gawdly :p

oh yeah hey i forgot no one answered my question about the boards HSF bracket.

oh and carnival: when im not using my comp, it is off. so there wont be much folding done with it ALAS.

I've had the exact same setup (MSI board, 2x246's, 1gb pc3200) running for about a month now, and it's been great. You definitely won't be disappointed with this combo. :)
