Just ordered me a Eee PC

I can't wait to get one. I am hoping tigerdirect (live outside of usa) get some soon.

Congrats, but I really wish Asus launched an 8-16GB model for that price. Put XP on it and away I go.;)

I plan to be getting an 8gb Galaxy Black or Pure White for Xmas. Looks like its going to be a great little machine. Don't forget that these things come underclocked, so if you want your full 900mhz or beyond, OC it! I also suggest to add a gig or two of RAM for cheap, and get a SDHC card for storage.

If you're Linux friendly like myself, look up alternate distributions from the original Xandros that comes on it. eeeXubuntu comes to mind (Any ubuntu variants really, but I suggest Xubuntu or Fluxbuntu), as does something like Gentoo or Arch.

I'm on my Eee right now. I love this little machine (still trying to get use to the keyboard in the dark though). So far I've been pretty happy with the default Xandros OS, but that'll be gone shortly I'm sure :D

I have a ton of sodimm laptop memory laying around, 533 stuff. Will this fit into the Eee Pc?

I'm quite pleased with the default distro. After you kick it into advanced mode and follow a few of the tweaks on eeeuser.com its not half bad.

Runs FF Beta 2 really nicely too :D

They finally got the wifi drivers native on the eeeXubuntu distro. I'm gonna wait about another month or two...let it mature, linux projects, like red wine get better with time :p

I ordered mine yesterday and should be here today or tomorrow :D

Also ordered a 2GB ddr2 stick since they were so cheap for it.

Can't wait to test it out. Looking for a pda replacement.

Honestly, as of now... I'm sitting at my desk with my Eee hooked up VGA to my 22" monitor (too bad my tv isn't exactly in the perfect position for keyboard coordination)... with my Razer mouse and keyboard. This little beast until my sig-rig gets fixed completely is my base of operations. It's brilliant, even stock this little piece of equipment can run circles around a lot of low budget setups. Mind you, the only games I will ever attempt on this thing is Fallout 2 or similar Isometeric Rpgs... and it can also pump out the spreadsheets (with the much loved Openoffice) as needed for my job. I'm very pleased with this super budget minded kick ass and take names; mobile computer.

Way to go Asus

I purchased a Pearl White E 4G from BB on the 19th, got the beast on the 21st.

Added 2GB Gskill 2GB ddr2, and got an 8GB SDHC card.

Running XP and flashed her to the 8804 bios.

Is the eee good for college students or a regular laptop is better?

Regular laptop is better, tablet is better still, but all this depends a lot on what you're doing with it. If you've got a desktop at home, any concerns about Word and Mathematica are less pressing. The Eee is a low-power job.

Well the EEEpc is great for college students use. No longer have you have to bring the 12"-17" notebooks around campus. Besides the main point of a notebook use in school is to take down notes and to go on msn, aim,ICQ,QQ, etc and possibly to listen to music while your on break. Then EEEpc is the way to go. It fits everything in the catergory mentioned. That's why I bought one :) No longer have I have to wear a backpack then is shaped like a D as I carry my books and HP 14" notebook before. :)

Also congratz on the purchase on the EEE! You definately won't be disappointed

Well, that's why I go with the tablet option being a trump card. The x61t is plenty portable and much more versatile than an Eee. But it also costs several times more.
