Hey guys, I'm purchasing these parts and I'd like to know how they sound. I'm not going to be using the computer for gaming or anything like that, just chatting and web surfing.

as dealing with me old P4... For the mobo i would recomend.

Chaintech's are nice mobo's reliable, also this lets you use AGP 8x, so if your going to game at all. this is the thing you want. It will Also let your Vid card use the 8x Insted of the slower 4x...

If you are flexiable a little bit with the price. also i would recomend

I would also go for 512 ram, but its all up to you. Im pretty shure every thing should work together with your current set up, and the one i listed.

Thanks for the suggestions! Yah the video card is an 8x, and I agree maybe I should purchase some more RAM. The motherboard is like my main concern though. The computer is just for leisure use, i.e. web surfing, chatting, checking e-mail and whatnot. I doubt any gaming will be going on.

You will be fine with 256 MB. Make sure you do tweak out Windows XP. On my gaming tweaked out gaming PC, it has only 72 MB taken up when it boots up. Minus 6 MB if you don't count all the background tasks such as Diskeeper and such.

Your Celeron is more than enough for basic internet and office needs.

4X and 8X makes so little difference. 5% at best. If you're not going for gaming, settle for less at 4X at cheaper prices (if there is any cheaper).

For your type, you should just use onboard sound, video and LAN.

I'm building a similar PC to this except of course, it'll be based on the Athlon XP 2500-M so you are all good if you follow the criterias and considerations that I list out.

Never mind the [H]Freaks. They're just... too hard. They can't settle for 256. They have to have 512. Shruggg...

He didnt tell me it wasnt for gaming... so i asumed it was for gaming. lol but oh well Yeah 256 will do ok... My old P4 1.6ghz only had 256... Also Yes the 4x would be ok... and if you really dont care about gfx at all, you could easily pick up a PCI for Very cheap....

P.S 4x and 8x... u can see the difference more than 5%....

As for the 4X and 8X, let's just say I'm basing on what I knew previously that there is little difference between 4X and 8X. Perhaps newer video cards are now taking up more bandwidth, thus taking advantage of the 8X bus. So, maybe it's more than 5%. But back then, there were literally little differences.
