just mouse cursor shoiwng up..

when i boot up my computer, all that shows up is the mouse cursor on a black background..not desktop or icons or anything..u can move the mouse but thats it..even in safe mode, same thing..

i don't really kno the specs of the comptuer as i am fixing it for someone..but its a 2.0GHZ celeron..doesn't seem to be a hardware problem..

any suggestions?

When you boot up to the black screen and mouse pointer, can you press ctrl + alt + del and bring up the task manager?

If not, the only other thing i can think of is trying to do a "Revert back to the last Known Good Configuation". Its a menu along with the Safe Mode menu.

nope, i even reinstalled windows, and the screen popped up once and then went back to just the black bg and a cursor...i tried new ram..what could it be? it can't be the video card cause it flashes up and then goes away and i mean the cursor is still there...

any help?

Only thing i can think of, is that you might want to reset the bios.

But im not sure, so you might want to wait for other's opinions.

i disabeled on board video and stuck in a PCI video card, and now i can get the pc to boot fine in safe mode, but in regular the same thing still happens...
