Ok, just installed SuSE 9.3... I login in as root, with no password. Now what do I do?

Hehe, but seriously, how do I get to the windows type interface or what not? I'm in the console I believe. I have no idea what I'm doing, anyone?

Did you select the Graphical Login? It should have had a GUI login, not the console.
If not, type startx to get X up and running. If it gives you an error, you didn't install X and I'd recommend doing a standard install with no customization until you're familiar with Linux and a little more savvy.

No offense, but doing a custom install when you're new to an OS is a sure fire way to become frustrated and mess something up from the get go.

Yes, I only did the standard installation, nothing custom... I'm not sure why there isn't any GUI.

That's just bizzare then. When you were going through the installation, did it give you any errors and did it ask you if you wanted to go through the X.org system setup?

Dumb question, what video card do you have?

It almost sounds like something didn't install right and you may need to install again.

I've had a similar problem. A few days after a few different installs of SuSE X windows eventually crap out on me. And put me right into the console interaface. You have to resetup the X config. I forget the command types, but I am sure google has it.

xconfig
(Follow instructions)
startx

Something like that.

I reinstalled and it worked fine this time... I'm not sure what happened wrong the first time, process was the same, but eh, whatever, up and running now!
