What do you mean? Your having problems with the DVD image?

it just does not look good, the picture looks real grainy and colors are not right, its kinda dark and people skin is redish

only thing i see wrong with

It should be ok, try tweaking the colors a little bit. Also it might depend on if the movies are compressed try some other ones. I did notice a difference between a few movies that was only cause they where compressed differently. Sweet rig BTW.

Decided against the Sony Macro? Yes I said that the Samsung panel was sweet..

Nah, I haven't totally decided against the Sony. ;) I'll evalute the L90D+, and if I decide to go for the Sony later, I will sell the Hyundai to my office, since I need a new monitor at work anyway. I have a feeling I might not care for the anti-glare coating on the L90D+. The Sony's glossy coating is what made me change my mind about LCD monitors in the first place. Plus, I like the way the HS95P looks better. I just didn't have the ~$750 right now to get the Sony.

I second that, however in my case its the Samsung 915N with the same panel as that one. :p

except you don't get DVI with the samsung.

Oh and it costs more.

The L90 wasnt sold where I was looking to buy, so that wasnt an option and for 150 canadian a recieve a no questions asked performance guarantee with it. Me no care about DVI if it performs the same.

AMD Gamer, what was your last monitor? I would like some kind of reference point to know exactly how good of an impression its making.

DVD image qaulity sucks ass i wonder why

TN panels aren't that great with watching movies because of not being full 24-bit but i know quite a few people said that DVD playback was alright on the L90D+ so i'm thinking the issue of quality is related more towards the video card. There appears to be an issue with ither the 6800's DVI quality or the drivers themselves. Do a search here on HardForum or over at nV News and you'll see what i mean.

My last monitor was the Mitsubishi DP930SB and i'm very impressed with the L90D+.

DVD quality on LCD panels is not quite up to par with CRTs. That I know. High Definition on the other hand looks great. I think it may have to do with the resolution of DVDs: converting a 480? resolution into 1280, there will be dithering involved.

DVDs look good in a small window, however, the bigger the window the grainier it may look. It also depends on the videocard you use. I have tested T2 and Finding Nemo on my BenQ FP931 panel and I thought it looked good. Not quite at CRT levels, but good nonetheless.

True HD (1080i) broadcasts look stunning on this monitor BTW. Oh, and no ghosting or blurring whatsoever.

only complaint i ahve is the DVD playback it really sucks, mabey there is a way to fix it,

ohh well i got it for gaming and its perfect for so i guess i will just watch movies on my laptop

Interpolation, not dithering. There's quite a difference. If the image looks grainy it's because of the source material, not the resizing process.

I have the Diamond Pro 930sb atm. I was thinking of getting the L90D+. Hrmmm. But being stuck at such a crappy small rez.. I unno.. 1280x1024....

monitors are all about personal preference. I think 1280x1024 is perfect for games and desktop space, but if you need more then you may just have to stick with ur CRT.

I have a Mitsubishi 920, same thing as the 930, just the previous year... Anyway, I got the L90D+ today, and eh... stick with your 930. I guess I feel bad because I'm let down. I hate that feeling. All the good comments and the THG and BeHardware review really had me pumped up for this monitor. But, it's far from perfect.

Is it the best LCD you can get? That it is. Will you be happy if you replace your good CRT with it? It depends on the person, but I'm not. Black level sucks. There's no way around that. Impossible to get decent looking blacks. To me, that is the worst thing.

And the 8ms response time is noticeable, I'm not going to fool myself about that. It's better than any other LCD I've seen, but so what? It's still there. It doesn't necessarily ruin games, but if you look for it, you will see it for sure. The colors are ok. About on par with my Mits.

One thing I do like is how sharp this thing is. It's much sharper than an aperture grille monitor. For reading text, it is a blessing. But for everything else... Well, I'm thinking I might have to go back to a tube.

You can always keep it and run a dual display with your Mitsubishi CRT. That way you can have the best of both worlds. The main reason i wanted a fast LCD was because my 930SB hurts my eyes to sit and stare at it all day. The LCD isn't as bad and it uses alot less power as well.

And 1280x1024 on an LCD is different then 1280x1024 on a CRT. The LCD is bigger so its closer to 1600x1200 on a CRT. I always used 1600x1200 on my CRT but i've gotten used to the 1280x1024 on the L90D+ and its just about the perfect screen size i think. At 1600x1200 your going to need a higher-end system to run max game settings even if you can get by with less AA.

i just got this monitor today.

pros
- games look, and run great
- good brightness and contrast (what settings do u guys use with these?)
- text is good
- no dead pixels
- decent viewing angles

cons
- slight light leakage/viewing angle problem on top and right sides
- menu buttons are annoying to use since they're on the bottom
- DVDs look TERRIBLE. I get that twinkling effect, and it's really noticable (ONLY in fullscreen mode. window mode it looks perfect). Some people have said they don't get it, while others they do.

questions
- i cant figure out how to change the height, can anyone help me out here?
- monitor installed three diff display monitors in the device manager, and i'm not able to install the drivers off the cd (tried all three).

edit: Twinkling effect fixed! I installed some new nvidia beta drivers and it went away. I'm SOOOO relieved now! :)

there is a lil metal pin you pull from the back of the display stand that will allow you to change the monitor height ....

a really cheesy solution in my opinon ... but it works

What drivers are you using? Some of them have screwy default color settings for video overlay; try going into your nVidia display panel, open the Color Correction tab, and select Overlay/VMR from the drop down menu. Then click Restore Defaults at the bottom, click OK, and try playing a movie to see if that helped.

71.81's

i did what you dsaid and no difference :(

maybe make a color profile for just movies and switch from your normal profile to the movie one when you watch films. i guess if color correction on the drivers part doesn't work then i'm out of ideas.

1. Does it have an x-brite type reflective coating or the usual matte?
2. How does it handle 4:3 resolutions? Does it letterbox them or stretch them to fill the 5:4 screen (I would be hooking up an xbox to it)?

I posted this on OCForums.com, and I thought it would be appropriate here as well:

OK, I just had what you might call a very sobering experience.

To anyone that had previously read my posts and may have been a little disheartened by my comments about this excellent monitor, I apologize. Please let me explain my story:

After having gotten fairly accustomed to this new monitor (and somewhat disappointed), I decided to hook my Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 920 back up to compare the two. Running the two side by side at the same time, I was ready to examine the differences. But I was not prepared for how much of a shock it was. My God, such a revelation. At first, I thought that something had severe had happened to my beloved Mits. I thought that it was broken. Maybe somebody accidentally kicked it very hard while it was sitting on the floor the past two days? I couldn't believe it. I then realized what other people, like Mica, had said all along. I was running my CRT way too dark. I had somehow gotten used to this insane amount of darkness over the past few years, so when I switched over to an LCD, I thought there was something wrong. No, my friends, the only thing wrong was me and how I had my monitor setup for so very long.

It was unbearably dark compared to the Hyundai. I then realized why other people on message boards could see details in pictures that I couldn't. And why I wondered how a person could see me in a particularly dark part of a map while playing an online game. How stupid is that? I had never thought to increase the brightness, because I loved how black things like the screensaver background was, or how the black borders were inky black during loading screens in games. But this was actually wrong. No wonder I thought the L90D+ looked washed out in games. The severe darkness I was used to was making the colors more rich on my Mits. Artifically so!

The second thing I noticed was just how insane the difference in sharpness between the two monitors. How could I have gotten used to something so blurry? No wonder I was suffering from eye strain!

So, I loaded up some games. I adjusted the brightness on the Mitsubishi to as close as I could get to the Hyundai, so there would be an even playing field. I also turned the contrast to 100, to try and match the Hyundai. It couldn't. Nowhere close. Whereas I previously thought that the LCD was making the colors washed out, now with the more correct settings on my CRT, it looked like crap. The CRT was totally washed out; the colors were lacking, the contrast was severely lacking, and believe it or not, the black level was just about on par between the two.

Furthermore, the ghosting that I noticed before was now apparent on both monitors. What I previously thought was ghosting or afterglow on the L90D+, was actually visible on my Mitsubishi CRT. I am now happy to report that after careful examination, the 8ms panel in the Hyundai is virtually free from ghosting. In certain games, like UT2K4, I absolutely could not tell a difference between the two monitors. In games such as Call Of Duty, the most minimal of differences could be barely noticed. It was so minor it's almost imperceptible. I assure you, I am very, very sensitive to ghosting/afterglow, and the Hyundai passes my strict standards with flying colors.

Which, speaking of colors, did I mention how awesome the colors look on the L90D+? :) Oh yes, I suppose I did. But they are worth a second mention. The color reproduction completely blows away the Mitsubishi 920/930, long considered one of the finest consumer-level CRTs on the market. It is shocking. It's amazing. It must be seen to be believed. Also the contrast is so far superior to what is acheivable on my Mitsubishi at a comparable brightness level. I couldn't believe it.

This LCD monitor is a revelation. It is the greatest visual device I have ever laid my eyes upon. After being a staunch advocate of CRT for many years, and anti-LCD, I have to admit I am completely pro-LCD now. But this is only possible because of this fine piece of techonolgy. 8ms response time, 700:1 contrast ratio! It's better than a CRT! I never thought I'd say that.

Friends, I cannot empasize enough how happy I am with this monitor. I was unsure at first, but after careful comparisons between the two, I doubt I can ever go back to my CRT again. It is that good. My beloved Mitsubishi will now be relegated to use at my office. If you want the greatest value in PC hardware today, get this monitor. It will suit your purpose whether you are a hardcore gamer, a graphics designer, if you just surf the internet, or use it to type up documents. It handles everything with aplomb. Heck, even running lower resolutions looks fine. The interpolation is pretty darn good. Bottom line, if you are unsure about an LCD monitor, don't be. This is it. This is the time that everyone on the fence has been waiting for. I'm extremely happy about my purchase.

If you have made it this far, I commend you for your patience, and be known that I appreciate it. :)

how's your DVD viewing? beacuse mine is fairly dissapointing. other than that, everything's gravy :)
