ugh I knew this would happen, somewhere deep down :(

My computer parts finally arrived from neweggs. I installed/plugged in everything, and when I press the power button all the fans start up and I think I even hear the hard drive clicking, but there was nothing on the monitor and it didn't post.

Now, I have tried making sure the speakers cable wasn't backwards, I've resetted the cpu and ram, and even tried a ram stick from another computer, then I resetted the motherboard and checked there was nothing under it, I disconnected everything but the cpu and ram, I resetted the bios with the jumpers and it still wouldn't work =(. I suspect it's bad cpu and/or motherboard, so I guess I'll return it and get a replacement

What do you guys think?

This may be a silly question but did you ever apply any heat sink compound? My roommate had a similar issue and was getting ready to take the thing back when all he really needed was piece of tape or some such.
 
by heatsink compound do you mean thermal paste? cause that already came with my heatsink when I got it

looks like i'll have to return it and get a repair at newegg =/, hope the replacement doesn't yield the same results
 
Boot with just motherboard/cpu and vid card. Then add RAM if that succeeds. Then gradually keep adding more parts.

Though right now, I'd have to point at mobo, cpu, or maybe power supply. You didn't fry any parts right while assembling I hope.
 
well, I installed the ram and vid card into my current computer. No problems. So i'm pretty sure it's the cpu/motherboard... i'll be returning those 2

edit: btw, i DID ground myself properly right? I touched the psu periodically
