And it is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!

So far I haven't seen one dead or stuck pixel (i did a test on a completely black and white screen). The colors are stunning, very sharp and crisp, the edges as well.

I just played a game of UT2k4, and I noticed little to no ghosting, and a very tiny amount of motion blur, which is great news for doom 3 :)

I haven't watched any DVDs yet, but I plan to tonight.

I wish I could do better that the Clear Type font rendering, all my words appear colorful, but thats ok, from a distance (of about 3 feet), its hardly noticable

If yer looking for a new LCD screen, definitly check this out, i got mine for $490 shipped from Page Computers, and I love it :)

I can concur with your purchase decision. I purchased my own 710T from Dell a week ago and I've been loving it ever since. I have nothing really bad to say about it except the simple fact that I can't get my DVI working, but I have a feeling that my video card is at fault.

Welcome to the inner circle. This 710T craze is quickly becoming one... :p

Dell Home has it for $462.56 shipped right now (no tax in most states)...I'm still hoping it goes down a little bit more :D

Damnit, and I live in Texas.
That's still almost $50 better than Monitorsdirect though, WITH tax. lol.

Giturar, how did the DVD's work out?

Also, can anyone notice much diffrence between 16.2million colors and 16.7million (24bit)?

i need a LCD monitor....... and im comming from a 4 year old Sony trinitron 19".... 32bit color....... and i still plan on doing some photoshop... im just afraid its not going to be as good ~_~.

ALSO!!! how is the glare? does it have any anti glare? or is it not bad (such as when you have a desk lamp right near it.

~Thanks

I will tell you, if you need the Size then the Samsung 710T and you will be disapointed coming from a trintron

The trinitrons are the best CRTS on the market and it will take alot to adjust.

I had a 710T and Return it and Now have a Mitsubishi 930SB and teh Quality is supirior and the Mitsubishi is also a Apature grille technology Like the Sony

Yea, im going to be heading off to college in about less then 2 months......, and i just can't fit my 19" trinitron....... so im forced to go with an LCD........... now i need to pick the best one i can for under 600$, and 17" seems to be equal to what i run my 19" CRT 1280x960.

I was JUST about to get the sony SDM-FS74P/B today.......... but i noticed it has only 16.2million colors....

~Thanks

Go for the 710T at Monitors Direct.com If ya dont like it you can return it

towert,
I'm concerned about LCD's color capabilities as well, so I searched around a bit and I think you might be interested in this:

http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=75963

32 bits colors doesn't exist, it's a language abuse. The max a computer can produce is 16.7M colors = 24 bits. 32 bits refers to 24bits colors + 8 bits alpha channels (ie : are used for realtime shadows...).

Some LCD are caped at 262k colors, others at 16.7M.

Yeah, thus if you've ever defined a custom color in a program such as photoshop there's Red, Green, Blue and Alpha - 32bits. 2^8=256 (0-255) each.

Hm, that's interesting, i never heard of alpha colors....... i wonder what they are.... ill have to do a google search for them.

So according to that......... when they say it can display 16.7million colors.......... can they also display these "8bit's of alpha colors"?

~Thanks

No reason to pay more at monitorsdirect, when dell is cheaper and has a total satisfaction return policy.

I think Monitors Direct is Nicer to deal with and They dont care why you want to return it where as dell will try to talk you in to keeping it

ive found lie'ing to dell is the best thing.

If your monitor has 1 dead pixle.......... say it has 11 ^_^

Just as long as the end user (us) get what we want.

Looks like the new 710T is what ill be going with......... but sadly there is no place around me that sells them,,, so i can't see them and try them out. ~_~ Blast it all!

Yea, dell seems to have a fairly good deal........ ~470$US with free shipping.

Yea, i just bought the 710T, so lets see how good it really is ^_^.

Got it shipped from dell for 432.56$ :D

Now i can't wait till i get a computer with a DVI-D interface.

 Crossing my fingers, wish me luck.

Alpha means that the colors can be seen through, ie transparency, and the 8 bits are just the amount that the color behind it will show through. Alpha can still be acheived in 24 bit color by just taking the alpha channel and software converting the colors (which is what lcds do). So yes they can still be displayed.

I had a SONY CRT 21" G500 and went to a LCD Hitachi 17" CML174 in january 2002...Would never go back to CRT. It didn't take me time to adjust, only a few minutes. As soon as I connected the DVI connector to my ATI 9700 pro, I was blow away by crisp text and vivid colors in games. My old CRT look washed and dull compare. In games ghosting only appear in Unreal 2, and some blurring but you quickly adjust to it. Of course this monitor is not perfect, but since most of my time is reading text, it completely blow away any crt, and no more eye fatigue. I also think the games look so much better that I don't care about some blurring. The only think is black in dark area when playing some games, it's too dark and difficult to see around. I was wondering if the Samsung has the same problem.

thanks

I too came from a Sony Trinitron Monitor, and I assure you, the 710T is much much better. It did not take me long to adjust at all.

Vinny why do you continue to post? You've contradicted yourself, whether by accident or mere stupidity (or more likely a combination), innumerable times in the past two weeks. You've said it before: you have sensitive eyes, NO ONE ELSE EXPERIENCES THE SAME GHOSTING YOU DO. If you don't like it, that's your thing. Your opinion is invalid.

If those of you reading this would like to know how dumb Vinny is, go read the following threads together in chronological context. He contradicts himself at least a dozen times and even invalidates his own hatred of the monitor.

Here's a fun clip for all of you that don't want to read all that:

I do have sensitive eyes and they are bluea nd when its sunny out they automatically close

And the clincher: his main complaint is that textures in counter-strike look bad at the near points - i.e. blurry. News flash - 16-bit textures look like shit up close (and usually far away).

I still say You are on Crack if you say the 710T comes even close to a Sony Trinitron

I came from a 710T and Now on a Mitsubishi Dimond pro 930SB and this is Monitor is superior to the 710T and Sony CRTS are superior to the Mitsubishi

Well, since we are discussing LCD's yet again with an imminent closing of the thread due to a flame war involving Vinny77, I'll add something new I discovered this weekend about my Samsung 710T.

This bad boy is a LAN gamer's dream! Space was extremely cramped where I went and the administrator breathed a sigh of relief when he saw me carrying my LCD in the original packaging box. Plus, the image quality was fantastic, despite the fact that I was forced to resolve playing UT2k4 which I think is one of the worst games ever.

Yet again, I have no complaints about this monitor and I highly doubt that I can ever return to a CRT monitor, despite their better performance in games. The simple benefits of an LCD have won me over, through and through.

Bomberman, I must say though, that defintely made me laugh. That was one of the most intelligent and well constructed insulting threads I've ever seen in a forum. Bravo, my good man.

I am sick of the people on this forum. I came here for Information. I read and researched alot and Belived what I was told. I got the 710T and It was crap. I was Disapointed that It played games worse than my 7 year old gateway 13.9 inch Monitor. I think that The people on this forum fell that They have to promote products. Saying it was this Magical Monitor That didnt have any ghosting or Blurring and that I was the only one who had ever seen such a thing. where as if you go on Other forums, This Monitor is Not promoted at all. I also hate all of the Flaming On this forum. I have my on opinions and i will stand by them. I shouldent be cursed and called names and flamed at just becouse i refuse to promote a piece of crap Monitor.

Vinny77 so what's the best LCD for gaming ? Don't care that you prefer CRT, I want to know what would be the best LCD to have.... I wanted the Samsung 710T but you said it suck.... didn't find any review.

It would be the 710T, It still sucks, even as it being the best it still sucks compared to a Sony CRT

vinny77 said:
Oh ok, I understand now. I mean the ghosting in Counter strike, Is not bad, It is not noticeable after 2 days of play

vinny77 said:
I did that with my old Crt and the 710T was alot better

vinny77 said:
i DONT CARE, Il say what i want when I want.

The 710T is a Piece of shit

?????

1. I thoght I got used to it but sisnt
2. Yeah the 710T is better than a 7 year old gateway, but not better than what i have now

Vinny, as a neutral party in this little debacle, I can understand what the opposing side is trying to convey to you in your attitude.

Your opinion is just fine, despite your absolutely horrid grammatical errors. Honestly, you are 100% entitled to your opinion and no one has to agree with it. However, the fact that you find every possible 710T thread on this forum and post negative remarks and even positive ones really confuses and irritates people. It's fine if you have posted once that you don't like the monitor after testing it and using other models. However, you keep posting repeatedly and don't let your opinion be heard, you literally scream it in everyone's ears constantly.

My advice to you is to just back off. I think we all know your opinion on the 710T, so there is no repeated need to call it a piece of crap because many of us, including myself, can easily disagree.

My advice to the rest of you guys. Lay off. If Blinded By Science has been forced to employ his moderator position enough, you guys certainly aren't helping. We all know Vinny might be a little off the chart, but it's just getting nasty now. And that is expressly against the rules.

Can't we all just get along and frag together whilst enjoying a 30 pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon?!

well, my expected ship date is the 21'st ^_^ :D :D :D.

I currently don't have DVI-D on my current computer, so i will only be able to try out analog first, but im die'ing to see how it comapres to my 4 year old 19" trinitron ^_^.

The next computer with a 6800GT will have DVI-D, so then we will see the diffrence (see after about 20 days of analog...... see what DVI will do for me ^_^)

I just pray for no dead pixles.

~Wish me luck

Well, I am most certainly done arguing. The fact is, as Vinny stated, the 710t is the best gaming LCD out there. His arguement is that CRTs are a more cost-effective alternative. Your negative comments towards LCDs are welcome, but when you post that the 710t is a piece of crap; you're misleading the other forum members. If you wish to try to persuade the others to stick with the less-expensive CRTs, go ahead. However, saying that the 710t sucks, when you've claimed that it is the best LCD, is just foolish.

Ewww.... LCDs suck compared to Trinitrons? Lame. I owned the NEC 2141, which had the AG Diamondtron CRT, and had it sitting next to a Dell 1901fp. They were both running off the same vid card, a 9800 pro. It was then that I realized that I would never own a CRT again. Honesty, the CRT sucked next to the LCD. The colors looked washed out, the text looked blurry, and the geometry was messed up. I believe this was a very fair comparison as they were both running the same app, on the same vid card, and at the same time. This is from a CRT that many people praise as being one of the best. It was promptly sent back to monitorsdirect (excellent service btw).

However, the 1901 was also sent back because my eyes are also very sensitive to motion blur. I loved everything about that monitor except the response time. So I waited. Then the 2001fp came along which is what I currently own. Motion blur is definately not an issue with this monitor. I'm sure it's there, but it's so insignificant that I don't notice it, and I play quake3, ut2k4, and moh:aa among others. This will be my monitor for the next few years. I'm even thinking of getting a smaller 17" LCD as a secondary because I have so much extra room after losing the CRT. If you search the forum for my posts you will see some of the reviews I did.
