I'm using stock heatsink + thermal paste, but I do have some AS5 I purchased as well. Any tips?
 
To start with, i'd up your vCore to 1.375 and set the FSB and RAM ratio to 1:1. I'm guessing your RAM is DDR2-800, right?

Increase your FSB to 333 and see if it boots into the OS.
 
The minimum FSB I can do is 533 with a max of 3000.

Default computer multiplier is 7 with option up to 50.

Options in FSB & Memory config are:

FSB - Memory Clock Mode (choices of Linked, Unlinked, and default which is Auto)
FSB - Memory Ratio (default is auto with choices of 1:1, 5:4, 3:2, Sync Mode)
FSB (QDR), MHz (default 1066)
- Actual FSB (QDR), MHz 1066.7
x Mem (DDR), MHz
- Actual Mem (DDR), MHz 666.7

raise the FSB same as AMD. You can't raise multiplier on intel processors.

Leave the voltage the way it is. You will most likely run 400fsb without raising voltage.

Set your memory manually to whatever the specs of your memory. 400fsb means it will run 800mhz which is the speed of your memory.
 
Yep, multi at 7. I'm not sure why the FSB is being displayed like that. What is it set at, at the moment? Have the memory unlinked then you can set it manually.

I'm looking at Everest Home Edition on my computer and it has the FSB at 533MHz. The CPU multiplier is 3.5x, but since there are 2 cores, it equals a multiplier of 7 in the BIOS?

I'm trying to find the CPU FSB in the BIOS, but nothing has a default of 533MHz. Now that I think of it, since there are 2 cores, could it be that's why I see 1066MHz, instead of 533?
 
The FSB is 266Mhz, but since it's quad pumped, i believe, it makes it 1066. If you have the RAM linked at 1:1 ratio, all you need to do is raise your CPU voltage to 1.375 and increase the FSB to 1333. Make sure the RAM frequency is 333Mhz, though.
 
I set the FSB to 1332 (666), and it booted up Windows fine. I didn't mess with the voltage or anything else. I'm going back to change the Vcore to 1.375 and that ratio to 1:1 to see if it does.
 
The FSB is 226Mhz, but since it's quad pumped, i believe, it makes it 1066. If you have the RAM linked at 1:1 ratio, all you need to do is raise your CPU voltage to 1.375 and increase the FSB to 1333. Make sure the RAM frequency is 333Mhz, though.

That temp. is good. Get Core Temp and see what reading that gives. The RAM is 667 because it's in a 1:1 ratio with the FSB. If you raise the FSB to 400, then you can run the RAM at 800Mhz (which is actually 400Mhz because it's DDR2).

1) It was set on Auto.

2) I understand what you mean about the RAM Freq. now. 667 = 333 and 800 = 400, right? At this setting with the RAM Freq. at 667MHz, it is 27C right when I booted up. Now that I'm not doing anything with desktop, it is 23C.

Take the vCore off auto, it's safer to manually set it. You're correct about the RAM frequencies, it just takes a little getting used to and doubling up the figures. Thse temperatures are really, but i do suggest getting core temp since it tends to give more accurate readings. I'm not sure the FSB voltage correlates to on your board, for not i'd just forget it. What's the CPU frequency you've booted up at now, and with what settings?

That's what I used, Core Temp, and that's what it told me. Both cores were 27C at startup, and then 23C after it idled. It seems pretty low to me, but then again maybe I'm used to my A64 3000+ being in the high 30's?

Right now VCore is still 1.375. I took it off auto. I'm going to try to run some test I guess to see if this is stable at 2450MHz.

Your temperatures are great, and PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD stress test your stuff. So many newbs overclock and just think that it's stable. I recommend two instances of Prime95, one for each processor. Run for 10 hours a night, for 3 nights.

Yeah, some stability tests may be a good idea. A quick one would be Super pi, if you want to get back to overclocking. Your FSB is at 350, right? Try it at 375 next, it should still be stable at the same voltage you've been using.
 
This is also why some enthusiasts recommend the E4300 processor: It has a lower stock FSB (200) and a higher stock multiplier (9) which means @ 333 a C2D e4300 is running:

9 x 333= 2997MHZ, leaving your RAM running at a very safe and stable DDR2 667. Refer to my previous link for more data on why RAM speed isn't as important as it may seem.

Or even
9 x 400 = 3600MHZ, ram @ DDR2800!

No matter what, always stress test. This is more important than the overclock itself. When you are trying this, I want you to remind yourself every step of the way how important stability is. Accepting an unstable overclock tarnishes the image of the overclocking community.
 
So I raised the FSB from 700 to 800, raised the VCore from 1.375 to 1.4, and now my computer freezes on bootup. It says to push "Delete" to enter Bios and Tab to see Bios Start up (or something like that).

I tried to Clear CMOS and first time it let me into BIOS, but now it won't even let me do that.

Any help? :confused:

That's fair, and i'm glad you pointed it out. The reason i said "might" was because the OP may want to overclock further. In any case stress testing is vital, like you said, and there may be no point continuing to overclock if it isn't stable at lower speeds- which is why an interim stability test is useful. But spending 10+ hours stability testing, then realising a much higher overclocked could be reached is a bit of a waste of time. Long, intensive tests are good, but wouldn't they be more suitable for when the OP is happy with the overclock?

Clear the CMOS now, then boot up; you should get into the BIOS. If you do, report back.

What is the voltage on your ram? Those firesticks probably like at least 2.1volts.

The RAM isn't being overclocked, so this shouldn't be a problem. Some of the other voltages were probably too low, especially considering the jump from 700 to 800Mhz.

I moved the pin from the left and middle pins to the middle and right, but the pin I moved was called USBPW5-8, so I think I did the wrong one, LOL.

700 to 800? You mean 350 to 400FSB?

Push "Delete" to enter BIOS and try again. Your CPU probably is having a hard time doing 2.8ghz. Raise the voltage on CPU to 1.45

I don't know why cause my E6300 does 2.8ghz on default voltage usually. Mine does 3.0ghz on default actually.

Make sure your ram timings are correct and correct voltage.

You should be able to find what pins to short in the manual. If all else fails, pull the battery for 30 min.

You're right. Since the sticks were running lower than stock speeds before they could probably cope with lower voltages; but now, running at stock speeds, they will require their advertised voltages.

What happens when you try to boot now, any beeps?

And you should see the reviews at newegg and all the people who use buffalo firestix. These are Micron D9GMH rated to work well beyond 500fsb.

to the OP you should raise the voltage to specs anyway.
 
Got it to boot up finally.

I let it sit for a few minutes, then tried to boot it up and went to living room. Came back and it was on desktop. I checked what speed it was at and it was 2800MHz, but froze right after I had right clicked My Computer to see the speed.

I waited a few minutes again and started it back up, but hurry and got into BIOS to change everything to default. I'll try it again later, but up the VCore some more to see if I can get into Windows.

I'll read everything else when I get home also so I'm up to posts. :)


I really appreciate everyone helping a noob like me. :)
