Just got BF2!

Hi guys, I just picked up BattleField 2 yesterday. I think the game is pretty good overall; it has some issues. A few patches should fix things up. I have 2 questions though:

The loading times are very long and the menu lags alot. I am using the rig in my sig. I plan to upgrade to a gig of value ram pretty soon. And, possibly a new Hard Drive. I am trying a Defrag now.

Also, what settings should I run at. My monitor is limited to 1024:768 so I will be running at that. My video card control panel is set to maximum quality with forced 4xAA/16xAF. I still noticed some jaggies, is there a conflict with AA or something in BF2.

In order to get decent gameplay I had to choose a lot of lower settings. I am not sure what is optimal for my setup. Also, occasionally the cd would spin and cause massive lag. Is there any way to get around using a cd.

I'm also using 1024x768 & a 9800pro, i don't think you need AA/AF on at all, i'd turn it off.

Yes the loading times are kinda long but it feels like to me the more maps you play in one sitting the faster it loads...i think it get cached in memory or in the BF2 folder in my documents.

the loading time concer is because of the amount of ram u have. bf2 basically requires 2 gig to run good. i would get the 2 gig and it will play alot better. go with 2x1 gig sticks.

also do u have that other hard drive (5400 rpm one) on the same ide cable as your main hdd. if u do get it off. its slowing the 7200 down.

as for the graphics. turn off aa and af. i would try at all med settings. i have a 6800gt and thats what i have mine at till some of the problems get fixed.

im thinking the cd problem is due to you only haveing 512 of ram. and there is not a no-cd hack out yet and i dont reccommend useing it if there was one.

another option to speed up load times and gameplay would be to get a raptor hdd. they r expensive but its worth it. or u could get a sata hdd with 8mb cache.

i would try and get ahold of eclipse for what memory to use hes the king.

Just got it too after playing the hell out of the demo. I'm running it at 1280x768 widescreen, with all settings on high except textures and no AA and it runs really well. Agree with the load times and sluggish menus (I know, 512MB barely cuts it). Frame rates are rock solid ~30/40fps once everything's cached, which takes about 15 seconds of running around. I think this is great performance for my modest system and is very playable with few frame rate dips. No problems running this game and it looks great to boot!

if you dont want to use the cd, then theres a program called alcohol 120%. it basically saves the game to your hardrive as a iso, and loads it on the virtual drive. so you just click on the drive and it'll run without the cd and the performance would be alot better being saved to your harddrive.

alcohol 120% is fully legal software and you do have to pay for it.

As far as I know, it is perfectly legal to make virtual cd's of cd's that you legally own. There are tons of commerical software that do this.

doesnt matter, i tried makin an image of my cd using alcohoo 120% and it still wouldnt run with the viretual image mounted. so i just leave the cd in my drive....why do tyhey have a cdcheck when u need a serial# and an account...is stupid.
