Not to brag but more as a FYI to those looking for a 30 CAP Retail Box, I just received one today from Monarch Computer Systems (monarchcomputer.com). :)

Here is the info

Prod Code: BX80532PG3000DSL6WK
MM# : 852371
FPO/BATCH #: Q401A429
Version: C30419-011
PACK DATE: 03/09/04

I won't have chance to pop it in a system for a week or two when all the rest of my parts arrive but I will let you know the stepping and such then. Monarch lists the stepping as D1 on their website, and I will confirm that as soon as I can.

I searched for a few weeks trying to find a 30 cap and was unable to find one that was a guaranteed 30 cap. Last weekend, Monarch dropped their price on the 3.0c from $229 to $214. Knowing that Newegg did not have 30 cap's currently and was still pricing their 3.0c's at $220, I took a chance on the Monarch one and am plesently surprised.

So, if you have been looking for a 3.0c 30 cap it might be worth a try to get one from Monarch.

I will post a thread over in the Overclocking section looking for advice and suggestions on overclocking this guy as this is my first attempt at ovreclocking on a P4 (I have historically been an AMD guy but wanted to try a P4)

Happy 30 cap hunting :) :)

I have a 3.0 coming in from frys today, how do I know if its 30cap?
SL6WK is 30cap and
SL6WU is 12cap??

Not necessarily. While I am not the authority on this by any means, I know that both SL6WK and SL6WU can be found in the 30 cap variety. The way to tell if you have a 30 cap is to flip you chip over and look at the bottom. Those little green things are surface mount capacitors. Simply count the number on the bottom and that is how many ‘cap’ you have. I will try to post a pic of the top and bottom of my processor next week.

Search through the forums here for “30 cap” and see if you can find a picture of what one looks like. If that does not work, you google something about ’30 cap’ and ‘P4’ and possibly ‘3.0c’ you will find lots of posts on lots of forums discussing the 30 caps, I don’t remember off hand but somewhere in one of the posts was a picture of a 30 cap and a 12 cap side by side.

I have heard various reasoning from posts as to what the 30 caps signify, but am not completely sure as of right now. One of the better explanations is that the 30 caps are actually the P4 Extreme Edition CPUs that failed final testing and have the L3 deactivated. If this is true, it would explain why the 30 caps overclock so well. Perhaps someone more knowledge than I can jump in and offer an opinion.

Either way, if you get a 30 cap great, it should overclock nicely if the rest of you system specs are good enough, if you don’t get a 30 cap, it is not the end of the world. I will still run 3.0 just fine and will probably overclock to something around 3.3 in a good system. If you really want a 30 cap, keep trying, as I found out, there are still out there. If you go to physically pick one up at a retail store (fry’s, etc) you can look at the date code and other info on the box and see how it compares to what I posted above, if they match or are a close match I would say you have a better chance at a 30 cap but like most of life there are no guarantees.

Best of Luck to you! :)

I have virtually the exact same CPU (same pack date and everything).

I'm running 3.9 GHz on a Koolance Exos watercooling system at 1.55V vCore.

Very happy with this cpu.

nice chip. i plan on getting my hands on one of them.

is there any online retailer that lets you choose stepping and 30 cap 3.0c's?
i think excaliberpc does.. i'm not sure.

I got a 30 cap 3.0 about 3 weeks ago did a whopping 3.3 ghz at 1.6v.

It's all luck of the draw....

I have a 3.0c 12 cap that won't do 3.5 (max is 3.4 or something like that...but with 1.65v). I swapped it with a 2.8c 30 cap and it o/c's nicely to 3.7 @ 1.65v. It would probably go higher if I had better cooling though.

Mine does 3.6 GHz on stock voltage, never tops 50C, and passed 24 hours of Prime95. :D

Happy 30 cap hunting :) :)

I just bought the same cpu, except it was Q401A248

@stock v.core (1.41-1.44v in MBM5) 3700 mhz, at 1.57 4010mhz, and yes it's a 30 capper. :D

you guys get the SL6WK or the SL6WU...i got the WU but mine is a dog to overclock...*sigh*

Mine is sl6wk

I got rid of my sl6wu after it refused to go higher than 3.6 on air / 3.75 on water.

SL6WK, after reading the posts here, and at a few other sites I went down to my local shop to see if they had any of the steppings people were happy with. They had 5 x 3.0c's,
2 were SL6WK. Best part was they were $40 cdn cheaper than any of the online discounters in Can., but only on 3.0c's ?

If anyone wants to try for the last 1, ask for "Mark"

I think mines a SL6WK but I never looked at how many caps it had. All I know is it does 3.42GHz with stock voltage and air cooling.

I am confident I could push it harder, but my memory is holding me back I think. I know my memory won't do 230FSB. :(

I have a SL6WU 3.0c and so far I've gotten it to 235 fsb @ 3522 @1.6 vcore on stock heatsink/fan and the temps are all ok, just gotta check stability and such.
edit: I probably could try using stock voltages, because before I changed it to 1.6, it was set on auto in my bios which crashed me

i have a 3.0c packedate 03/02/04 sl6wk oces very well hit 4ghz on air. it is a d1 steping
