OK. I'm going nuts over this one, and so are the 40 users relying on me to sort it out. I have 2 win 2000 SVR terminal servers. One is fairly old, P3 700 with a mirrored SCSI array. has been sitting in the cabinet for about 2 years and never missed a beat. The second is fairly new, P4 2.8 SATA mirrored aray etc. It has also sat in the cabinet and chirped away beautifully. They're both up to date, virus free.

Last week, the phone goes nuts etc etc. I check the server, and it's just happily restarted itself. I was like  totally odd! so I check the event log and get something like the following:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Save Dump
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1001
Date: 8/27/2004
Time: 9:28:42 AM
User: N/A
Computer: TERMSERV2
Description:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000001e (0xc0000005, 0xa0106e8e, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). Microsoft Windows 2000 [v15.2195]. A dump was saved in: C:\WINNT\MEMORY.DMP.

I went right through the system, and couldn't find a thing that may of caused this. The next day, at roughly the same time, but not exactly, same thing! Was like damn, what they hell! So then I got serious. went through everything. hardware checks etc. got the win 2000 debug kit. Couldn't make anything out of dumpchk.exe. anyway, long story short, after a week, of this, I decided to rebuild the server. as I was rebuilding it, bickety bam! the other server in question does the exact same thing!! [hair starts falling out] immediatly thought virus maybe? but its clean! 3 days after rebuilding the newer server, she starts carkin it again.

Now my thoughts: the only new thing common to both is windows update. I've rolled back a few updates on the older box (the on i didn't rebuild) and its gone a whole day without crashing. but I'm not confident.

btw: the new one just blue screened in right in front of me. all i got was a KMODE error blah blah in win32k.sys. (that's all i could get b4 it restarted.)

I really need some help on this one!!

Edit/ I've since rolled back update 835732. I'm going to see what happens.

Here is the blue screen:

SP4 on both, eh? MS has a few articles on that stop error, head to http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx and do a search on:

stop 0x1e

No behavioral changes on the machine, as in more users then before, more clipboard activity, etc? Are they set to download and install updates automatically? If so, when are they set to install them automatically? Make sure its not during business hours since some of them might require a restart... :)
