My video card seems to be preventing me from starting up. the light on my CDRW drive stays on, theres nothing on the screen, and i cant feel the hdd spinning

i tried resetting the bios via the jumpers, didnt help

what can i do? did i get a bad card? could it be the mobo or ram? how do i check?

that chart doesnt help me because theres no beeps

but i found this

I just built a new computer system using ASUS A7V333 and nothing happens when I turn it on: no display and no beeps from the PC speaker. What is happening and how do I fix it?

If you experience "no screen and no beep," which means your CPU and motherboard are not communicating, this could mean that the CPU is not seated correctly or a motherboard component is grounded with the case. To isolate the problem, please double-check the jumpers setting, ( Jumper Free is suggested) remove all the add-on cards, unplug all the hard disk and floppy cables. Then try booting up to see if you can hear any beeps. If you still do not get any beeps, try placing the motherboard on the table (or isolate from the case) with CPU & FAN and speaker only, and reboot.

looks like im in for some work :(

its a asus a7n8x-e deluxe mobo, amd barton 2500+, 512mb of corsair XMS PC3200, sapphire radeon 9600XT

That stuff is covered in that link I posted. It tells you exactly waht to do.

Disconnect the IDE cables from the CD-ROM, Hard Drive, and Floppy drive from the Motherboard. If this resolves your irregular post attempt to connect each device one at a time to determine which device and or cable is causing the issue.

If the above still has not resolved the irregular post attempt to disconnect the Riser board (if possible) with all devices attached to it. If your computer does not include a riser board (ATX Motherboard) disconnect all the cards within the computer. If this resolves the issue or allows the computer to post connect one card at a time until you determine which card is causing the issue.

If you continue to to receive the same problem with all the above hardware still removed attempt to disconnect the CPU and RAM from the Motherboard. If this fixes the issue connect the RAM if the computer still continues to work connect the CPU. Extra Note: If your computer has a Pentium II or Pentium III socket, once the CPU is remove you may receive a NO POST (No beeps). However it is a good recommendation to at least reseat the CPU.

If the issue persists its a good possibility that the motherboard is bad.

That is straight from the link I posted.

Troubleshooting is never any fun. Good luck with it.

well i disconnected everything and still no dice, i'll try reseating the CPU tomorrow
