Just built a new computer, need advice!

I just put all my new crap in a CoolerMaster 330. I want to know what everyone thinks and what i should do as far as cooling and moving stuff around etc. i tried hiding as much wires as i could. I'll be adding a Fan Controller in my 2nd 5.25" bay next week when it gets here.

-P4 Prescott 3.0ghz
-1.5gb ddr2-400
-x850xtPE 256mb PCI-E
-500watt PSU

Current Idle Temps:
-how are these temps?
CPU: 33 C
Aux: (?) 46 C
HD: 31 C
GFX: 32 C
System: 30 C

Current Gaming Temps:

CPU: 46-51 C
AUX: 46 C
HD: 33 C
GFX: 50-60 C
System: 30-35 C

Your best bet would be to focus on wire management. The IDE ribbon cable going to upper portion of the case appears to be blocking the processor HSF. You can also cut out the lower front and rear exhaust grills to maximize throughput.

With regard to processor cooling, the only item that will drop the Prescott by more than a couple of degrees over the existing HSF would be a Scythe Ninja.

Larger (120mm) fans spin slower (i.e. quieter) and move more air than smaller fans.

If your heart is set on a fan controller, look for a 3.5" model and install a Kama Bay in the remaining three full size bays.

Looks like you have a good start.

well the hsf has a 92mm fan on it right now. The IDE ribbon is barely long enough to reach which is why its blocking it.

my heart is set on a fan controller because i have 4 fans running and its a little noisy, what else would you suggest?
 
A fan controller similar to this one should suffice. You can place two fans per channel on this model as it is rated at eighteen watts maximum.

While you are there, pick up suitable cable that can be folded out of the way.

With regard to the noise in general and the 92mm fan on the HS, 120mm (Yate Loon) fans are great for cooling while also decreasing overall noise.

i don't know the first thing about wiring 2 fans to a channel :/.

and which cable do i need on that page?
 
Well you could read up on basic D.C. fan wiring in this sub-forum. Information is enlightening.


If you do not want to parallel the fans to maximize the channel loading, just hook up one fan per channel.

Any cable that is longer than your existing cable and will lend itself to being folded out of the airflow.
 
You don't need a Kama bay in that case, you can just zip-tie a 120mm fan in the three unused bays. It'll tie right into the drive cage.

that's what i was going to do. but as far as my current air flow. should i make my side vent exhaust or intake?
 
Wouldn't even use it. 2 intakes, plus the exhaust from the 120mm in the rear and the PSU will serve you fine. Of course, I like a quiet computer as much as I like a cool one. If you HAVE to use one, make it exhaust IMHO.
 
okay i'll check the temp difference tomorrow when i take it out.
