Just bought MPB 15 - suggestions?

I just bought the 15 inch unibody MBP after a while of considering it. It is on the way here now, but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone had suggestions as to what applications I should get. Also I want to keep the battery in good condition so is there anything I could do to make it last a long time with good health.

There are tons of cool apps out there (and tons of threads across tons of forums about this topic ^_^ ). It just depends on what you like and need. My favorites, the ones I use most often, are Adium (IM), Fluid App (for Gmail), Last.fm, and Quicksilver, to name a few.

We had an app recommendation thread a little while back. Why it's not stickied, along with the "Show your Mac setup" and "Show your OS X desktop" threads, I have no idea. C'mon, mods!

You could also use Coconut Battery to monitor your battery as well.

The program that I can't live without is "iStat Menus". It is comforting to know what is going on with the Mac at a glance.
