Hey gang...

I have been looking into a Athlon64 processor and motherboard. The two items are:

1) S-939 Athlon64 (3200+)
2) ASUS A8V DELUXE MoBo

I was just curious whether I will see an improvement over my existing Barton setup. My motherboard and processor are going to be the only items I swap out (noting that I am in the process of getting a new harddrive as well).

PS: What how much would you pay for this combo, shipped? I can get it for 400US or about 500CDN.
 
The MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum is the best overclocking the board. The Abit AV8 is also better then the Asus A8V. The Soltek K8T800 Pro board is the best stock performance board.

I wouldn't pay more then $400 USD at the most for that combo you have there.
 
Better as in stability or performance? The Neo may be a bit more than I am willing to spend. I have not heard too much about the Soltek K8T800 Pro. It seems to be a heck of a lot cheaper (50 CDN less in some cases) than the rest.

Also, would the performance difference be noticeable from what I have now? I guess what I am trying to do is become more future proof than my current chipset.
 
k8t neo = via chipset (read: teh suq)

k8n neo 2 = nforce 3 250 ultra chipset (read: teh bomb)

One is the VIA chipset and the other in the nVidia chipset.

There isn't much of a performance difference between all of the s939 boards because of there no longer being a memory controller in the northbridge. The nForce 3 Ultra chipset is slightly faster though and seems to overclock better.

What i meant by the VIA chipset being more stable is that there doesn't seem to be as many issues to work through. The boards are less buggy.

You'll definitely see a performance increase coming from what you have now to an Athlon 64.
