There are some sales on right now that might end up being better I thought for under $200.

It would use a T-amp, but maybe that'll be fine. Planning on using the 3.5mm out of my LCD TV so that it'll play audio from the laptop, Wii, Raspberry Pi, and whatever else I might hook up.

Pioneer SP-BS41-LR - $90
Insignia Sub - $20
Cheapest T-amp at Parts-Express? - $35 with shipping

3.5mm split from TV to sub and amp

So, 3.5mm from TV (for laptop, Wii, etc.), 3.5mm to sub, and 3.5mm/RCA to t-amp to speakers.

Does that work?

Edit: The TV also has optical out. I don't know if there are any decent DAC/Amp's that won't break the bank that might work better

Uh, yeah. No. You can do better. The pioneer speakers probably have more bass than the sub btw.

You need to look on craigslist for a used receiver and speakers.

You really need a receiver to run everything into as you have a couple of sources. Ideally, use optical and not 3.5 or analogue. Anything else will just not sound good and be a pita to boot.

For example, my old kenwood receiver, found on the curb, and epi 1200 speakers, given to me from a friend who had them in his warehouse and just needed about $23 worth of material and about 3 hrs of work. This system would ROCK you out of your room and cost $23....Old school still owns for audio. Doesn't have to be new.

The thing is that we are in a small apartment, I have the desk in front of the TV, this it's the office - slash - living room. A receiver will take up 1/3 of the desk, it just doesn't seem like a good use of space.

That's the reason I've been interested in the Corsair SP2500, hoping it goes on sale on Black Friday, but the Pioneer's are the cheapest I've seen.

Sub is optional at this point. At least until you can swing a real one. Going half assed is like having sex with your clothes on. That combo will be superior to the Corsair though.

Thanks spaceman, appreciate the help.

How would I get sound from the Wii and potentially another game system in the future to the amp/speakers? TV's 3.5mm --> RCA? But PC USB --> Dac?
