I've got an 80gb western digital WD800 SATA drive.. It has 8 pins in this configuration

. . . .
. . . . with the jumper going across the dots on the far right that are bolded. How do i make this drive a slave? just plug it in? I cant find any info on westerndigital.com with this drive. help would be great. Thanks

That page lists everything you need. It tells you what all jumper do on a that particular drive.

It's important to note though that SATA drives do not need master/slave jumper settings. It's a serial connection with one device per cable...so...no master/slave is needed.

I didn't wanna flat out just say "It's SATA, Master and Slave don't really apply much anymore..." so I posted the link when you said:

"I cant find any info on westerndigital.com with this drive" means you couldn't find any info not "I found some info, just not anything I can use or anything that answered my questions." :)

ok i dind't know the jumpers didn't matter with master and slave. thanks

SATA as a "new" technology basically did away with the Master/Slave nomenclature (aka naming) because as defakto brought up, it's a serial data transfer technology so it's not shared, i.e. one device per cable, essentially and not parallel in nature as the old ATA/IDE ribbon cable setups were.
