Comming Q4 2006.

Now this is what I am talking about.
True gameplay physics :D

Terra - *droools*

Now that's the kind of destuction I like to see on a day like today. I was having a bad day at work until I saw that video, thanks!

Sounds impressive, but is it anything more than the sofwtare solution Havok brought you for Half-Life2 and Oblivion. What I'm saying is nowhere on there does it say their game-play physics are hardware accelerated.

PhysX PPU isn't listed in system requirements either...

Nice. This could very well be the killer app that AGEIA needs to take off. I forsee a PhysX and Joint Task Force under the Christmas tree this holiday season! :D

I highly doubt a CPU could process that kind of physics...did you se those building going up in flames?

Even though it dosn't state it on there website all the advance physics are provided by the Ageia card. I havn't seen the video so I can't comment on how good they are. (My work's dosn't like video's that much)

I have to say, that does look pretty freakin' cool. I'm not totally sure whether efficient code couldn't do that kind of processing on, e.g., the second core of a CPU, but either way I think it looks great.

Also something I noticed, thats certainly going to take a shitload of GPU power to work with all the dust/debris!

There was a use for a PPU that i hadn't thought off :D

Terra - Glad your mood improved :)

That's some awesome footage!

Just read the preview in PCG today - sounds like it could be a damn good game on top of using the PPU :)

Fingers crossed here...

Dunno if it's required to play the game it self , but the game-play physics seems to very linked to PhysX:
http://ageia.vnewscenter.com/press.jsp?id=1147177728480

“After evaluating different physics systems, we found AGEIA PhysX technology to be the most flexible and easy to integrate, with performance that is second to none,” said Vincent van Diemen, executive producer at HD Publishing. “With the availability of the AGEIA PhysX Accelerator card for PC gamers, our developers can push physics beyond anything seen in games before.”

Terra - But I will keep a close eye on this title...most pages about is in Russian though :(

There's a press release about it so it should support the PPU - trust me when I say it looks cool, get-off-work-15-minutes-early-cool at least :)

Edit: OOOOHOOOH btw - HD Publishing: a sequel to Nexus using fully realistic physics in space... does that sound like fun or what?

Yeah, I was like WTF when I saw this video...hadn't heard about this game before, so it was a nice surprise :)

I think Geometry Instancing would help there.

Terra - But we will all find out later this year..I hope :)

Yeah, that video is quite plesing for the eyes..and quite impressive.
Also the other video, showing the gameplay.
Look like a pretty solid game to me.

Terra - And russia has some danm good coders too...

That actually looks promising.

Yeah, even the gameplay looks good.. :D

Terra - I got a feeling that we will see much more of this sort (physcis games) very soon ;)

It needs polish, but I like it. I watched the second demo and thoroughly enjoyed watching the choppers crash into the buildings and destroy/damage them.

Yeah, that part also made me smile BIG :D
But I think they got time to polish it up...as it slated for Q4 2006 :)

Terra - Wonder if tanks can ram through buildings too...

Saw this game at IGN a few days ago, looks amazing. Can't wait, for me a tactical RTS game is just whatt I want. Crap, I don't want to buy a PPU now, :p Oh well I hope the price comes down when the game is released.

The video looks pritty impressive. I found the system requirements on their website. I find it odd that Ageia's PPU is not mentioned (it does say subject to change tho, as if they plan on it) It is clear that it is not going on the ATI / Havok lineup (LoL) by the GPU specs. but judging by the low cpu and gpu requirements, there has to be something doing the work...

System Requirements

- Processor
> AMD Athlon XP 1500+
> Intel Pentium IV 1,5GHz

- GPU
> Nvidia GeForce 4 64Mb (4MX excluded)
> ATI Radeon 8500 64Mb
+ minimum resolution 800x600, optimal resolution 1280x1024

- Memory
> 512Mb

- Sound
> Any 100% Direct Sound Compatible soundcard

- Network
> 10Mb LAN
> broadband internet

- OS
> Windows 2000
> Windows XP
> Windows XP 64

- Software
> DirectX 9.0c

Valve - Half-Life2 said:
1.2 GHz Processor, 256MB RAM, DirectX 7 level graphics card, Windows 2000/XP/ME/98, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection
And it had the processing power to do the work for:

Valve said:
Physics - From pebbles to water to 2-ton trucks respond as expected, as they obey the laws of mass, friction, gravity, and buoyancy.

edit:
My quotes came from Valve's offical page here:
http://www.half-life2.com/overview.html

It's really only PR fluff that Terra doesn't like...though...he started this thread off with PR fluff...so I guess it's ok this time?

Good point.

its been a while since I played, but I dont think the boyancy was quite right tho... I dont think the boyancy was calculated, it seemed more scripted... but like I said, its been a while since I played.

the buildings blowing up looked kinda static in this game too.

I wonder if you hit the buildings long enough with a crow bar, if it would explode?

Menelmarar said:

Notably not: fluids, particulate smoke or cloth. Also everything acts the way it should (not :) ), meaning that everything from a plate of sheet metal to a small piece of rubble drops at exactly the same rate - buoyancy was handled by global variables that fed numbers into the physics engine, the effect of water/depth/shape had no effect on the calculations.

HL2's physics were cool, but to say that that's good enough for everything to come is a bit on the conservative side. Make no mistake Havok's latest engine has more features than Ipion's did then, but it also guzzles more CPU time, increasing the overhead for every bit of physics implemented.

I think the time has passed for the idea that rigid-body interactions are the only worthwhile features in any physics engine. Whether people think fluids and cloth are worth it or not are neither here nor there, they are sublime features when implemented correctly and titles will come out that show them off - hopefully sooner rather than later.

I guess there official website is outdated but that post about the game states it's using Ageia's card.

IGN said:
The AGEIA physics engine really shows its stuff here. Bombed buildings and vehicles fly apart in a shower of debris, infantry are tossed about by explosions, and street lamps fall to the ground as they're run over by tanks. Since the game relies on the AGEIA technology, gamers will enjoy even more goodness if they're using the AGEIA PhysX card.
So you get all those amazing physics just from the Ageia physics engine.

But the PhysX card gives you extra goodness....Sounds similar to GRAW, UT2007, and any other title that wants it's playesr to be able to play over the internet...$300 for extra special effects isn't going to get Ageia into the mainstream.

Menelmarar said:
This implies to me that all of the gameplay physics are available to all people via the software Ageia engine, but you get even more eyecandy if you have a PhysX card....

Because it's a ground-up PhysX situation there might be some more flexibility with their features and maybe even a speedboost. Maybe there will be 2 game modes? Even in software mode that's a lot of building to move around in multiplayer.

Time will tell, and no-one has a crystal ball.

An important thing to keep in mind whenever posting in this forum....there in not much fact surrounding ANY PPU solution.

AGEIA has been VERY tight lipped about the inner workings of the PPU yes.
I got my own private theory(don't ask :p ) as to why that steams from some confusing about some early inhouse codes...

Terra - But we learn more for every day :D

Nice game I like RTS and especialy modern Combat theme.
Hope the gameplay is oke. A another game to follow.:) Looks way more apealing to me then Rise of legends.

Well, I've been aching for a good RTS since Warcraft 3, so I'll probably pick this up just to get my RTS fill.

Since TA for me really :(

RTS' are funny like that - sometimes you just need a fix :D

wouldnt it be sweet if supreme commander supported ageia? I cant wait for SC

Yes, I played the Rise of Legends Demo and I thought it was terrible. Seemed exactly like the original Rise of Nations which I own and at the time I thought was decent......

This fall I will be busy, BF2142, Joint task force, and Test Drive Unlimited-all hopefully on a new 'puter. Any other games anyone think I should also be watching. Thank

Yeah - NWN2 :)

And @ nhusby - SupCom looks like it's doing its own physics thing for now, but yeah that would be pretty awesome!

Some of the destruction falls on one of the tanks and it blows up.

I also notice that the action is fast and massive I hope I can keep up. Could be a missile hit the tank simultainlously becasue so much is goin on fast.

In my opinion to fast.

Oh yeah, forgot about CRYSIS, how could I forget about CRYSIS! Do you guys and gals think CRYSIS will make use of a PPU? or did I miss that announcement.
