i'm having a hard time finding information about this controller. i have the msi x58m mobo, 6 sata ports on ich10r and a 7th on the jmb363 controller. i intend on getting a single fast ssd in the future, so i'm wondering if the jmicron port might be worthwhile in this case? i see bad reviews for jmicron when it comes to raid all over the place, but those were all for an earlier version of the jmicron controller. is this one better? if not for raid, for a single drive?

The JMicron controller is bad news, I wouldn't use them for anything other than an optical drive or maybe a storage drive for something expendable like porn.

i had a feeling that would be the case. i just can't figure out why msi would bother including them on the board, then

I use such a controller. Though their windows-based RAID drivers are crap; the controller itself is fine. I got proper drive-bottlenecked performance from this PCI-express x1 controller.

Preferably you should use your chipset-powered SATA ports for your SSD, though. It would be less latency and that's something you might notice with a high IOps drive like SSDs.

I use jmb363 for mirroring OS drives, because my ICH10R have 'silent corruption' problem  and i have no other choice without inserting external RAID controler. I'm using jmb363 in this config for about 8 months and have no problems with it. I've got reasonable speed about 70-80MB/s max (2x500GB WD5000AAKS in RAID1).

i'm more concerned with attaining max throughput i can get on ssd with sata 3gb :p
