ok.. so my mom's duron 1.2ghz died.. she disabled the thermal shutdown in the bios cause it was shutting down on her... at least she knows how to use the bios??

so.. i had her order a duron 1.8 ghz off newegg..

she has a jetway n2pap-lite motherboard.. nforce2

her old duron was at 100fsb.. so i just set the ram to 200fsb and was content.. sure it was a-sync, but it was double..

her new duron is 133 fsb.. i played around with the bios and got it to 145, but that's it.. it just acts sketchy above that.. i tried a different stick of memory cause she has some cas 3 crap..

so i don't think the board, or her memory can support ddr 533.. i don't want to run her memory in the 133 - 145 range either..

so its async right now.. 200fsb memory and 133 on the cpu..

basically.. my whole question is... does anyone know if i can just flash it to the n2pap-ultra bios and start to oc it? or if there is a hacked bios out there somewhere..

if not.. should i run the memory 1:1 with the cpu, or a-sync?

don't know about the bios...

duron 1.8s overclock well (check this out http://forums.amd.com/index.php?showtopic=14791&hl=) I've gotten mine up over 2ghz while using some cheap ddr333 and stock voltages, and the temps only went up about 1c.

as far as the 1/1 thing, I would say no, its probably better to run the ram at speed, rather than downclock it to meet the fsb. I get about a 3-4% increase in 3dmark05 score when I mine at 333(166) over 266(133). keep in mind this is in dual channel mode, so I believe that the difference would be larger in single channel mode. I have been told that this is because the cpu is not the only thing using the memory bus so, if possible, its better to have the mem bus running faster than the fsb.
