Hi,
I re-arrange my HDD location and I pull off the HDD and then I put it back in. Suddenly, my computer acting weird! It doesn't recognize my network card anymore! I'm using the onboard Realtek 8100c.

Then, I try to reset the CMOS but got another problem with memory. I usually ran at 220MHz speed stable for 6 months, but now the speed is automatically adjusted to 186MHz! I manually set to force it to run @ 220MHz again and it seems to work....

What could make the LAN card not recognized? I try reinstall driver so many time but it is the same thing. Here's the error.

Location: PCI Slot 6 (PCI bus 2, device 18, function 0)

Maybe I need to configure the PCI myself???

**Also, my PCI firewire card also stop working....*** Something must be wrong with the PCI bus..... what to look??
 
Is it a card or the onboard ethernet port you are using? I don't think Code 1 is severe. Uninstall the devices in device manager, unload the drivers and reinstall.
 
NIC is onboard. As mentioned, I already tried uninstall/reinstall couple time.
The firewire is a card with VIA chip.

Both were working before I reconfigure my HDD (which seem to be totally unrelated).

Also, I have dual boot, Win XP 32-bit and 64-bit. This problem happen on both boot. Windows detects the NIC as general Ethernet Adapter but can't install driver and use it....

Help! :(
 
Are you at stock speeds or overclocked? If you're oc'd, take it back to stock speeds and see what happens.

I already tried everything I could, configuration-wise.... reset bios, re-flash cmos, but the problem persist.

So, I remove my mobo from the case, reconnecting everything outside the case (one last time before RMA?) and it WORKS!!!!

Might be loose cable or cap somewhere on the board...

Here is what I found out:
1. When the problem occur, the NIC is not correctly recognized by BIOS. It detects as "Unknown PCI Device".
2. All two physical PCI slot did not work
3. USB works, sort of (I believe it use PCI-USB bridge internally)

I still wanna pinpoint and prevent this problem in the future. If anyone has more idea please fill in. It is working now (outside the case) so it's kinda OK, I guess. Hopefully, it will work again in the case....
 
You by chance don't have a mobo standoff in a wrong spot do you? That could be shorting the board, would explain why it works out of the case.

I don't think that is the case since it has been working fine for many, many months.
Nevertheless, I think I'm gonna put more insulation on fitting the mobo to the case now.
