Jerky Gameplay Problem Under Windows 7 (NOT an FPS issue)

I'm experiencing jerky game play in games under Windows 7 64 bit RC1. FPS seem ok (though I haven't analyzed them) but it's almost like someone has their finger on a pitch control, they switch the game to accelerated time, then slide down to 'normal time' and back again, repeating this every second or so as I'm playing. It's manageable when things happen slowly but in games like RFG, where you're driving whilst attempting to judge speed and distance, it makes it almost impossible.

System:
AMD 720BE, 4Gb OCZ 1300MHz DDR3, AMD 790X Asus M4A79XTD Evo Mobo, ATI 4670 512mb, 1280 x 1024 LCD monitor.

Drivers: ATI 9.10, 9.9.

Any suggestions/info appreciated, thanks in advance.

Admin Edit - Here's a suggestion: Please don't cross post the same thread in multiple forums. One topic = one thread in the most appropriate forum. Here's a link to your other identical thread in the AMD forums. Since you say you're not having an FPS issue, this is likely the place to get the quickest and best answer to your problem.

Can't help you, but I can add that I also have that problem on Windows 7 32bit Pro.

On a Acer Aspire 5520G.

:-(.

Turned VSync off ... SEEMS to have improved things in Dead Space.

Far Cry still jerks with vSync off, testing RFG.

Is vsync on? You can get wildly varying frame rates with vsync on and frame rates which can't quite reach 60fps, you're basically jumping between 30fps and 60fps sometimes quite fast.

The problem is not vsync, or FPS, the problem is that the game seems to speed up and slow down rhythmically about once per second. Even if FPS varied, time within the game should pass at a constant rate, which it is not. This is the problem and happens whether vsync is on or off.

Did you install the AMD processor driver? I was under the impression this wasn't necessary under Vista/7 but I know that Windows XP showed similar performance at times without the driver. Might be worth a try.
