Jef Raskin, the lead designer of the first Macintosh (news - web sites) computer and a pioneer in the development of user interfaces, died Saturday at age 61. He had been diagnosed recently with pancreatic cancer, his family says in a statement.

yahoo

NY Times (reg req'd)

All the other major mac publications direct back to the yahoo story. I find it strange no mention is made at apple.

yeah, he honestly deserves mention on their front page... I guess him and steve were bitter to the end however :(

It is also on Google's homepage.
I first found out about him and his site last year through http://www.digibarn.com where he is listed as the true designer of the Macintosh project.

His website was full of very interesting and funny articles that were quite fun to read. There is a lot of good information and ideas on how human computer interaction should be handled and some parallels to model airplanes as well.

Best article on there by far. If you ever want to keep your personal computer history straight this is it, teach your children. ;)
