I ask requesting help on a mod for my jeep I am planning. I have 1997 jeep wrangler and I want to mod a pc into it. I am fairly sure I can fit one of the new mini itx cubes into the center consule. then I am going to connect it through the sterio. my questions are about the power, moniter, and controls. I plan on just useing it for a mp3 server to the sterio and maybe a dvd layer. I would like Ideas on possible cases\systems, moniters that can be mounted in a soft top jeep, power supply ideas, and button controls vs. keyboards.

I was planning on putting one in my 99 TJ for music and for GPS when offroading. You should look into using the area above the driver footwell, move a few wires and you have a ton of space there, that is fairly weather resistant (if you leave your top down in the rain a lot like me).
As for a monitor, I found a great 7" lcd that I was going to mount from the speaders in my Toys by Troy roll cage. It could also be mounted pretty well on the change holder above the center console. (I cant find the link in my favorites, I know I found someone using it on jeepsunlimited.com) If you don't have an aftermarket cage to lock it to, you might want to look into the tuffy overhead security console. It could likely be modded to hold your Monitor and CD player, and would hide the pressence of a computer from theives.
For power, they make small computer power supplies that run off of 12 volts, so you wouldn't even need to power it off of an inverter and a normal PSU

cubedpc what where you planing on useing for a case. Also if i get the lock box and put the cd play in it, is ther any where i could get a controler unit to mount in the current radio compartment to that i don't need a keyboard and mouse input or touchscreen

I was planning on using acrylic to make the case, and have an exhaust fan mounted on the bottom with passive intake holes on the bottom so that it would be vitually waterproof from water running down from the dash. Currently this project is on hold though, as I am low on money, and am concerened about the large shocks that the computer would take when hitting holes and dropping off of rock ledges while off roading.
I personally don't have the tuffy overhead console, but it looks like you could fit a lcd in a custom modified front part, while your computer could fit in the rear compartment and other areas of the console. If you are good with metal working you could even make one of these custom to hold your computer and everything, that could be really sick. I unfortunatly can't install one of these because the spreaders on my roll cage are too close together.
Here is a link to some info about the tuffy console: http://www.off-road.com/jeep/swb/2001/may/tuffy/TUFFY1.htm .
I don't have any exact dimmensions, but it looks like you could fit a flex-itx or mini-atx mobo in there.
THis would require some minor metal work at least, so this would be a no go if you don't have a lot of tools needed.
