Basically what the title says- does anyone know if a jaton tvga9685 is directx compatible? I've googled but to no avail, and I've never owned one of these cards before so I don't know myself. It uses a Trident Providia chipset if it helps...

Thanks!

Im sure it is capable of some directX version. I found info on the card but nothing as to what version it will work with.

That Trident 9685 chipset dates back from the very early days of Direct3D. As such, it supports only DirectX 2 or 3. Don't expect to play even DirectX 6-generation games with that video card. And even DirectX 5-generation games may not play correctly.

By the way, DirectX 4 was never released to the general public. Thus, for most of us, DirectX versions jumped from 3.x to 5.x in one fell swoop.

Thanks, guys. I'm using it to run a LCD that'll be driven with a custom 2D graphics application that I'll be writing. It won't be seeing any heavy-duty 3D graphics by any stretch of the imagination :)

I did find that the card was made around 1995-6, so I figured that it had to be compatible with SOME version of Direct X. Hopefully with the limited graphics I have planned for it, I can get away with using DX9, which of course would have to be loaded on the host machine in order to run the main graphics card.....

Oh...actually I paid a bit more than $3 for it because I got it off of Ebay  But it included piggyback cards for RAM expansion and S-video/composite output, so for it's day it wasn't exactly plain vanilla, either.... :D

It's hard to find a card that's unacceptable for low-res 2D work...

I still have a soft spot for my STB Lightspeed 128...
